Druhi neupane is a 48 years middle aged adult female. She is from Nepali origin and is admitted to hospital for the effective management of abdominal
pain. She is from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Community (CLAD) as she is from non- English speaking background. She makes her fall under the
risk of communication gap as majority of the hospital staffs are English speaking. Similarly her family members though visits regularly, are also not well-
equipped in English, increasing the communication barrier further. The language gap makes it difficult for the nursing professionals to understand the
patient’s exact situation and clinical needs.
Thus analysis of the case study it can be said that Druhi Neupane is at a higher risk of getting imporper care or enjoy the benefits of the person-centred
care approach. This is because; designing of the person-centred care approach requires proper understanding of the patient’s needs from both subjective
and objective data. Subjective data is mainly derived from patient’s own feelings and sensations, described in his or her own words. Communication
problem with the patients and her family members also creates decreased participation of the patient in the care plan and informed decision making
(Ahmed et al. 2016).
Thus taking insights from this case, it can be sated that Druhi is at risk of encountering medication errors and misdiagnosis due to factors like
misinterpretation of the patient’s health needs, miscommunication. She can also become victim of culturally in-competent care as majority of the
healthcare professionals in the hospital is not well-acquainted with Nepali language and its culture (Ahmed et al. 2016).
