Individual Learning Goal 1
I want to learn and enhance my interpersonal skill for communicating effectively with four
patients during the experience of the workplace. I can achieve it as an interpersonal skill is
practised within the workplace, and I would be able to excel in my profession with this
skill.
The rationale to why this is important for my practice as a nurse
Excelling in interpersonal skill is very important and necessary for a nurse in any clinical
settings (Bach & Grant, 2015, p. 13). Multiple patients are visiting and taking admission
within the clinical setting or care. This patient interacts with multiple nurses, and thus an
effective interpersonal skill would assist in effective communication and building a
therapeutic relationship with the patient (Kornhaber et al., 2016, p. 1). This skill would
also help me in proving person-centred care towards the patient. Moreover, this
interpersonal skill would also help me in making effective communication with my peers
in understanding the health status of the patients (Grant & Goodman, 2018, p. 21).
Strategies to achieve this goal
Practising and implementing the behaviour of active listening.
Practising communication considering both verbal as well as non-verbal, it would
help in communicating efficiently with multiple diverse patients
Teamwork or networking is an effective tool, and it also helps in enhancing the
interpersonal skills as the teamwork involves collaboration and incorporation with
diverse work and people (Needham, McMurray & Shaban, 2016, pp. 4-5).
Individual Learning Goal 2
I want to learn about the guidelines and policies of the workplace setting to provide safe
care to the patients in the clinical setting. I can accomplish this by analysing and
understanding the code of conduct and regulation of workplace safety and identifying any
additional hazards during workplace experiences.

The rationale to why this is important for my practice as a nurse
It is very important as the safety of the patient is the major and primary goal of any
healthcare or clinical settings (Sujan et al., 2015, p. 1). When I become a registered nurse,
it would be my primary responsibilities for providing safety and identify and hazards that
may risk the life of patients or any consequences. Besides, nursing professionals are the
frontline executives in providing efficient care and qualitative services to the patients
(Fabry, 2015, pp. 2-3). A safe environment would have a high impact on optimal health
outcomes.
Strategies to achieve this goal
Understand and learn the guidelines and policies of the workplace under the
guidance of a mentor
Observe and identify any hazards that can cause any higher risks (Slovic,
Kunreuther & White, 2016, pp. 39-42).
Learning about the current rapid response system of the workplace
Work closely and observe the registered nurse in providing safety and measures.
Ask for any queries or any feedback on the existing policies and guidelines.
Understand the government regulation on the safety measures of the health
setting (Glasby, 2017, p. 60).
