1. Give two examples of why a project might be terminated early for cause and two examples of why
a project might be terminated early for convenience.
Termination for Cause:
If a project has slipped into the delays from which any contractor could not make any
reasonable recovery, and the delays that significantly impact any of the project.
The contractor repeatedly or persistently fails or refuses to supply enough materials
or skilled labors.
Termination for convenience:
If an owner cannot obtain the additional financing to finish the work, the owner
should terminate the balance of work for the convenience so long as there is
termination for the convenience clause in that contract.
Termination for the convenience clauses has been often found in the construction
contracts, and also grant ability to the owner to terminate any contract at their own
wish or convenience.
4. A project manager is in the finishing stage of her project. It is apparent that one of the project’s
deliverables will not be completed before the project is wrapped up. What options does the project
manager have for this uncompleted deliverable?
When any project is at its completion or finishing stage and remains incomplete, then
a project manager has many options in hand.
Remaining some of the deliverables can be
Altogether stopped
Integrated into another project
Continued as a less important project with delayed finishing phase.
The project manager should negotiate with customer if some documentation or
deliverables remains uncompleted. With discussion, both parties decide what
partial deliverables can be sent to the buyer, resolving any outstanding issues
etc. if direct negotiation fails then courts may help in the final settlement.
5. Provide an example of how poor escalation of a project problem can create additional problems.
Investigation of failing or troublesome IT projects presents the special problems due
to sensitive nature of the subject matter. Most of the people tend to forget, hide, or
put their failure behind and move on to next project. There seems to be the code of
silence in software development community that prohibits discussions of the failures.
