Introduction

This part is about reflection of human resource management practices and this

reflection is based on task 1, 2, and 3 which I have done in previous assignment. Task 1, 2,

and 3 was about human resource practices in an organisation. The organisation that was

selected in previous task is Tesco. In the starting of this individual portfolio report, a brief

introduction of the company will be discussed. After that, a job advertisement for a customer

service manager of Tesco is provided as evidence. At the end of the report, the selection

process for the same job advertisement will be discussed.

About Tesco

Tesco is a British multinational groceries and general merchandise retailer. It operates

in seven countries across Asia and Europe. It is retailing in books, electronics, clothing,

furniture, petrol and many others. It is the market leader of groceries in UK which has 28.4%

market share in the market. The company earned $55.9 billion with the help of 4,76,000

employees (Tesco, 2018).

Job advertisement for a customer Service Manager

Customer Service Manager is for leading and motivating a team of staff who ensures

that they are giving their best services. Tesco has a vacancy of Customer Service Manager; it

posts the information on its sites with the application form
(Jaakkola, and Alexander, 2014).

Selection Process

As discussed in the previous task, Tesco can use the two approaches of selection

process that is online recruitment and outsourcing recruitment. Both the approaches have

different ways to complete the selection procedure.

Online recruitment

In this approach, the company posts the information for job on their own website or

any other websites to update the people for application. As we can see that the company has

posted the job vacancy on its own website. This information contains application form for

people who are interested in applying for the profile. In this process, first the application form

is filled by the candidate then the company proceeds with the next process. Human Resource

manager shortlists the applications according the requirement of the job profile

Pavlou, and Constantinou, 2015)

After shortlisted the application form; the company proceeds with the next step which

is online intelligence test which is based on the knowledge of a candidate. In this test

question are given on the basis of requirement of profile. It is necessary for the candidate to

clear the task for the further rounds of selection process.

Selected candidates are invited for the further rounds of selection process that is HR

interview. Human resource manager of Tesco take this interview in which they takes the

personal information of a candidate to analyse the confidence and personality.

The last round is based on the interview which is taken by the manager of Tesco to

evaluate the effective selection process. In this round, manager asks some questions to

evaluate the intelligence, confidence and personality which are done in previous round. It is

Outsourcing Recruitment

As discussed in the previous task the company is visiting the universities to appoint

the students. This process of recruitment is different from online recruitment approach. In this

selection process, the company provide the application form in the universities for interested

candidate; the application form contains whole description about the company as well as the

job profile and candidate’s responsibility towards the company
(Johnson, Wilding, and
Robson, 2014)
.
Human resource manager shortlists the application as per the requirement of profile;

selected candidates has to clear their intelligence test. Intelligence test contains the basic

question to evaluate the intelligence and knowledge of candidate related to their subjects.

Selected candidates are further called for the next round that is held in the Tesco office.

Human resource manager of Tesco takes the personal interview to know about the

candidate and to analyse the personality of candidate. Selected candidate are further called for

the final round which is technical round. Technical round is taken by manager of Tesco in

which they ask the question related to its subject to analyse the knowledge of a candidate

about the job profile
(Gilani, and Jamshed, 2016).
For the above given job posting online recruitment approach will be better in

comparison to Campus Placements, the reason behind this is that the job is of a customer

service manager and it will require candidate who has some similar job experience of retail

sector. In campus placement finding a candidate with similar job experience is tough,

however in online requirements approach it becomes easier to find a candidate of job

experience as only those applicants apply who are willing to work for this specific type of

job.

Conclusion

From the above analysis, it has been concluded that the human resource managers are

effectively working for the company. The selection process of the company is organised by

the human resource manager of Tesco to hire the best employees for the company. HR

manager can hire the fresh talent and highly skilled employees by using the two approaches

of selection process. HR manager of Tesco plays his major role in growth of the company by

selecting right candidate for the right job.
