1TESOL BETT ASSIGNMENT
Answer 1:
Role play is highly beneficial in communicative teaching. In terms of Business
English classes, role plays provide a realistic interphase to the students and with the help of it,
students can make use of vocabulary and sentence fragments for talking about the different
practical situations such as telephonic conversation, booking tickets etc. It is also to mention
in this regard that both listening and speaking play an important part in a Business English
class and with the help of role plays, students get a good opportunity to make use of and
demonstrate their skills and talents.
In this section, I am going to elaborate on presenting role cards that will be related to
a telephonic conversation among two colleagues.
Two roles are been allotted to two students. One is the caller (Colleague A) and one is the
receiver (Colleague B).
Caller (Colleague A)
You are to call your colleague for
postponing your lunch meeting with
him that you have today at 1:00p.m at
Tim Hilton Café.
The reason for the postponement will
be that you need to meet your
business supplier on an urgent basis
Instructions:
Formal Greetings
Fluent speaking and clear
pronunciation
End Talk
Receiver (Colleague B)
You are to receive a call made from
your colleague with whom you had a
meeting today at Tim Hilton Café.
However, he wants to postpone the
meeting and after knowing the reason
behind the same, you will have to
postpone it for tomorrow at the same
time and same place.
Instructions:
Formal Greetings
Fluent speaking and clear
pronunciation
End Talk

issues that they are likely to face when planning their business or making business plans. This
draft demonstrates some considerations. Learners in Business English class have a tendency
to learn new things and they often are seen to be self-inclined towards learning. Speaking and
listening are crucial along with powerful vocabulary.
Following are the different activities that could be performed in the Business English class:
a) Listening and memorising
Required level of language- Intermediate
Outcome- improvement in the listening skill and pronunciation of the trainers
Trainers read out the contract for three times and the students are pre-instructed
for listening the material and write as many words as they can remember. Students
write the words in the given paper and the one who writes the maximum number
of words is the winner.
Students are also required to read their words loud in order to ensure that the
trainers could assess their pronunciation.
At first, the trainers ignore the spelling mistakes done by the students. But, in the
end, they are asked for making correction on the same.
b) Listening and repeating
Required level of language- Beginner
Outcome- Improvement in their pronunciation, increasing the level of confidence and
development of fluency.
Trainers read out every line aloud and the students listen them
Students are instructed to repeat each of those line after the trainer
