5TESOL ENGLISH Assignment 2 1. The five levels in TESOL are beginner level, upper beginner level, intermediate level, upper intermediate level and advanced level. 2. It is important for a TESOL teacher to understand the various levels because the course structure which will be taught is designed accordingly and the level in which the student will be categorized will also be understood. 3. At the beginner level, the student may speak only a little and the teacher will try to teach the student to distinguish one word from another. It is also important to make the students repeat the phrases and questions so as to improve their speaking skills. 4. The student must be given time to improve their understanding level and then read them accordingly. It is also necessary to check the tense of the students while they are reading. The teacher must also check whether the student is trying to skip any parts of the word. 5. It is the duty of the teacher to check whether the student is able to write complex sentences with fewer errors. The student must also have a broad idea of the vocabulary and must have increased understanding of the new culture. 6. The five topics that are to be taught at the upper intermediate level are hobbies, sports actions, transport, personal information and weekend activities and holidays 7. Five examples of realia that can be used in the advanced level are maps, documents, theater program, coupons and food packaging. 8. A lesson plan is the framework for a lesson.

Lesson objectives are the outcomes which are framed to judge the achievement of the students at the end of the plan. 11. The main purpose of the follow up activity is to assess the achievement of the lesson objectives which are framed by the teacher. 12. The basic components of ATA lesson plan are topic, level, age, length, number of activities, methodology, resources, warm up, pre-task, teaching, task, follow up and home-work. 13. Teaching refers to the introduction of new material and task is the doing the class activities that facilitates the acquisition of the resources that are presented in the class. 14. Language skills include listening, speaking, reading and writing skills which the teacher must focus while preparing the lesson plan and assigning related task to the students. Speaking skills must be given due focus for the beginner ESL student. On the other hand, for the intermediate level the teacher must focus on the reading skills. 15. Resources:Bring any fruits or vegetables beginning with the alphabet assigned to them accordingly. Play videos or songs Warm Up: Students who will participate in the activity will make a circle. They will bring the fruits or vegetables assigned to them accordingly. A basket will be placed in the center of the students. The students will throw the ring according to the alphabets Teaching 1: The teacher will play songs and videos Task 1: The students will repeat the songs after looking at the videos Teaching 2: The students will be asked to bring a fruit or vegetable of their choice. Task 2: They will be asked to form a group and sit in circle. The students will throw the ring in the alphabets of which they brought the fruits or the vegetables. Follow Up: Students will be asked to identify the rhymes after looking at the video Homework: Students will be given CDs to practice the task in home.
