Description
The subject that we were learning about is the testing of blood sugar for a patient.
It was a practical class, and the teachings were about how to use various devices to
measure the blood sugar of a patient. I was so naive and anxious because I imagined
that the process would be so complicated and risky. This was because I had never
tested for blood sugar before and therefore did not know what the process entailed. I
did not wash my hands nor warm them before drawing the blood that is needed to test
blood sugar. I also found it very difficult to use the depth indicator, and I was scared
of injecting myself using the needle. I also experienced difficulties in reading and
interpreting the results displayed by the device since I was new to the procedure.
After making the test, I was so happy to have performed it successfully, and the
lecturer helped me in the interpretation of the results.

Feelings and Beliefs
During this experience, I had a sense of anxiety. This is because the process
involved pricking the skin to get a drop of blood, and I was so scared of it. I was also
happy since I was expecting to learn something new. After the experience, I felt that
the procedure was straightforward, and I was eager to attend more practical lessons
since I found them to be very interesting.
Evaluation
The experience was excellent except the part where I had to prick my skin to get
blood which was needed to carry out the test. The supervisor who was teaching us the
procedure was very patient with me, and he encouraged me to go ahead with the
process because I was so scared and I was the last person to do the test. The other
students in the room laughed at me since most of them completed the procedure very
fast since they were not as naive as me. When I saw my friends finish the test, I was
encouraged, and the fear of pain that I had disappeared. The lecturer also showed me
how to read and interpret the results of the glucometer, and I felt a great sense of
accomplishment.
Analysis
The experience was very critical for me since it taught me how the device can be
used by patients at home. According to Albers & Pop-Busui (2014), nurses and other
healthcare workers must involve patients in their care. This is because research has
established that partnering in care helps in improving health outcomes. Partnering in
care is critical since it enables the patient to understand the condition that they are
suffering from, and hence, they can safeguard themselves against various illnesses
