In general, the article talks about the Texas government and its institutions which play the
role of informing and linking the citizens to public officials, to political aspirants, and to social
movements so as to enable the public to get the desired outcomes. In the article, elections and
voting are viewed as processes that place political aspirants in public offices, hold them
accountable for their actions, and replace them with others if they fail to perform as desired. To
discredit the representational bias and political partiality evident in the Texas politics, the public
should consider taking an active role in politics. By doing so, their voices will be louder than
those of private sector interests and the wealthy personalities.
The main point made by the author is that the people have the ultimate responsibility of
shaping their lives. In other words, if the general public decides to actively take part in politics,
and more importantly, vote in huge numbers, then it will be easier to eliminate the complex
bureaucratic system that is currently in place. Essentially, an active participation in politics and
voting will ensure that actual policies are made which will serve to improve individuals,
communities, and working environments.
The contents of the article relate to the study of interest groups for various reasons. Like
this article, which puts emphasis on the power of numbers, interest groups enable like-minded
people to join hands so as to achieve political mileage. Unlike the political parties whose primary
aim is to clinch political offices, interest groups are more focused on holding the public officials
accountable for their actions. They device worthwhile approaches such as lobbying and
electioneering so that they can achieve their agenda ("Texas Politics - Interest Groups," n.d.). In
Texas, the interest groups which are composed of the professional organizations and business
have all the resources to their exposure and thus perfectly placed to conduct pressure politics.
