Task 1: which strategies can be identified in the text below?
The text below contains the following strategies:
a. Narration- the writer tells the story about the father and his heart attack through narration
to paint the picture of what happened so that the father was taken to hospital. The writer
also tells the struggle the mother had to go through searching for them while they were in
a biology laboratory dissecting a frog.
b. Causes and effects- the writer explain that every time the mother tried calling him the
phones were busy since they were in a biology laboratory dissecting a frog.
Task 2: analyze the sample text for both rhetorical devices and writing strategies
Rhetorical devices
Logos has been brought out at the time when the writer makes up their mind to watch political
control because of the value they have for it. This brings out a tug of war between what has value
to the writer and what they have loved doing throughout their life (Ly-Le, 2014).
Pathos is an appeal to emotion that comes up when a political times encroach, the music that has
been loved by the writer throughout their life(Ly-Le, 2014). An emotional appeal especially to
love has been used.
Kairos is used as an appeal to time specifically when political times encroach on the music the
writer has loved throughout their time while they are watching corporate control. It signifies that
time is running and what they have loved will soon be on (Ly-Le, 2014).
Use this table to record and explain your annotations in preparation for the essay
tomorrow.

Logos- facts The writer has provided facts and information on what made it
necessary for the couple to do cleaning on the day her father-in-law
was to visit them.
Logos- narration The writer tells the story of her eight-month pregnancy, the
husband's cabin fever and how the husband's father was to visit
them even though the house had not been cleaned.
Logos- thesis statement
Logos- statistics The writer uses statistics in the third paragraph where 55 percent of
American mothers and 18 percent of American fathers attend to
housework. In paragraphs 4 and 5 45minutes taken by women doing
more work and later 11 percent of fathers and 6.4 percent of mothers
who move lawn.
