Introduction:
The essay will be covering all the vital aspects associated with the remarkable architecture of
Glasgow School of Art. The essay will be incorporating history, restoration, risk factors,
campus, exhibitions and other vital information about the magnificent architecture built by
Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The building is a Public University level art school and was
established in the year 1845. Glasgow School of Art has been situated at Glasgow, Scotland
and the essay will be covering all the crucial aspects related to the noteworthy architecture.

Glasgow School of Art. The essay will be incorporating history, restoration, risk factors,

Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The building is a Public University level art school and was
established in the year 1845. Glasgow School of Art has been situated at Glasgow, Scotland

The Glasgow school of art was initially founded in the year 1845 as the Glasgow school of
design but the name was further changed to The Glasgow School of Art in the year 1853. The
architecture bookends his architectural career. The building is heavenly impacted by the arts
and craft style. It has Japanese detailing and Scottish baronial architecture. Overly the
architecture provides a brief about the holistic approach of Mackintosh. The building has
been currently put under restoration due to the major fire occurred on 15 June 2018. At the
incident, no one was injured but it impacted the neighbourhood as the school will be closed
for some time and the tours have also been cancelled. At the building, famous architectural
designs form Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the history of his framework. The school is
considered as one of his utmost architectural work from the past 100 years the building has
been functioning as the art school. The campus of the school has been developing from the
time of its completion and in the year 2009, there was an architectural competition held in the
campus for finding out the individual architect who could successfully complete the master
plan for the campus (Louchart, et. al., 2015).
The competition was effectually won by the New-York based architects Steven Holl. The
Reid building was finished in the year 2014 and it has been placed opposite to the destroyed
Mackintosh building on a particular site that is occupied by the Foulis, Assembly and the
Newbery Tower Buildings. Many of the leading contemporary artists in Scotland were
produced by the Glasgow school of art. As per the architecture profession, the School has
been rated as highly prominent by the profession of architecture. The school is a self-
determining sculpture school that has been contributing towards the university level
programmers and researches in the structural designs. At the surrounding area of Mackintosh
campus there lies a School of fine art (Chamberlain, et. al., 2015). The digital studio has been
placed at the Pacific and the base for the school of design is in the forest. In the Guardian
University Guide, the art school has been ranked as the Pinnacle 10 of the dedicated
enlightening institution. The risk factors that were included at the time of the fire were the
sprinklers that had to be installed in the building, the components of the fire suppression
system had been delivered earlier before the incident but they were not installed and tested.
