Now if it is required to calculate the mean salary then it is the sum of total salaries of all
employees divided by total number of software trainees.
Mean = (30,000 + 20,000 + 35,000 + 25,000 + 15,000 + 40,000 + 50,000 + 30,000 + 45,000 +
20,000) / 10
310000/10
31000
Hence Mean = 31,000 Rs which is the average salary of an software trainee of Microsoft.
For median arrange the data in ascending order
15000 20000 20000 25000 30000 30000 35000 40000 45000 50000
As the number of data is even hence median is as n/2 and (n+2)/2
10/2 = 5th position and (10+2)/2 = 6th position
So mean at 5th and 6th position
(30000 + 30000)/2
30000
Hence median is 30000
As we see that mean is 31000 and median is 30000 hence the best measure of central tendency is
the median as it is lower than mean
