Thesis statement: Minority rights are the topic of debate in many states. While some feels
it is an absolute essential for the development of the society, some feels it is an unfair and unjust
action of the stsate giving privilege to only one section of the society. The paper aims to discuss
the reasons minority rights should be present in today’s society. The reasons that help in
understanding the importance of minority right will be addressed in the paper.
Reasons in favor:
Minority rights are essential for the recognition of the minority groups. In order to
provide justice to the groups that are commonly the victim of discrimination and deprivation,
minority rights are developed.
It is the equity more than equality that is essential in order to bring harmony in the
society. Some people have been suppressed for centuries on the basis of their race, gender,
religion, ethnicity and related aspects. This have led them to become the socially backward group
with a large gap between the developed group. in order to eliminate the gap, it is important to
have minority rights which would help the minorities to fight back the discrimination against.
Minority rights are to protect the minorities from being the suppressed in the contemporary era.
Reasons in against:
However, there are some debaters who think minority rights are against the principle of
equality. Since it is a society of human being and every human is equal minority rights are the
against the principle of equality. Therefore, it is an injustice done by the state. Although
minorities represent the groups who are disadvantaged for their small numbers however, it is not
always the way. The term is also used to describe a category of people who have unequal access

to positions of wealth, power and prestige and they are the people who are the victim of
discrimination and prejudice
Minority rights are acts of favourism since certain group of people are given extra
benefits. It is unjust for the fact that it deprives the people who are potentially eligible. It is
simply an unjust performed by the political, social and economic institutions.
Reasons as answers to the against:
The security of minority rights is an act of intercultural and resistance exchange. Through
empowerment that is shared considerably and comprehension, the several gatherings that include
a general public of the society ought to have the option to draw in, corporate and collaborate with
each other, while protecting their own character.
