INTRODUCTION
Comprehension stands for the learning of reading about the material which is present in
front of the individual and learning. Retention is the thing look at what learning has been retain
by the student. This report highlights the different type of the role which used to be played by the
comprehension and the retention in improving the quality of the learning. After that the report
highlights the different hurdle of building the Comprehension and retention skill in the student.

Role of building comprehension and retention
Comprehension and retention are the two words which are generally used together, but in
real there is a huge difference in between both the words. Comprehension stands for the
understanding which has been gained by the individual by reading the material which is present
in front of the individual and learning (Du, Ou and Saini, 2017). At the same time Retention is
the thing which relates to the future as this used to look at what learning has been retain by the
student after period of the time as well.
Comprehension and retention used to play a very crucial role in improving the quality of
learning and increasing academic achievement of the student. Comprehension skill used to
develop by the student with the help of some of the step such as Making connection, It is the
step in which the student has to make the connection between the reading and reality. Create a
visual is the next step in which the student has to make sure that they used to read the visual pic
(Klingner, Vaughn and Boardman, 2015) . Make interference and prediction is the another
technique, in which the student has to take the clue from the reading and has to make sure that
what will happen next.
Comprehension skill used to bring the variety of the benefit as this used to increase the
pleasure of the reading for the learner as student found the study more interesting as compare to
the past. The biggest reason behind the same is that comprehension skill are fundamental to the
language fluency which eventually increase the enjoyment and effectiveness of reading of the
which eventually help the company in improving the quality of the learning in the student as it is
the fact that the better you understand better you will be learn (Shen and et.al., 2017). Another
role of comprehension in the quality of the learning in the student life is that it not only help the
student in understanding only one subject, it help the student in understanding more than one

subject at a time which eventually help the student in improving the efficiency of the learning
(Rogowsky, Calhoun and Tallal, 2015). Comprehension not only help the student in learning the
reading material but also help in visualizing the pics which eventually increases the quality and
the efficiency of the learning for the students.
Reading something and learning something is the essential task for the student in their
academic learning but at the same time it is also very important for all the student to retain the
learning which has been gather by them in the past with the help of the Comprehension skill
(Lukács and et.al., 2017). Retention used to play a very crucial role also as it helps the children
in interrelating the learning. As there are many topics in the academic study which need to be
interlinked with each other to gather the further learning. As a result the retention help the
student in interlinking the current learning with the learning which has been gather in the past
(Gilakjani and Sabouri 2016). As exam are the crucial part for all the student in the academic
learning retention help the student in keeping the learning for the longer period of the time and
can answer the question of the exam in better way. This eventually used to increase the
efficiency of the learning for the student. Another role of the retention for the student in
improving the efficiency of the learning is that it helps the student in reminding all the learning
very easily and on the basis of the same it get easier for the student to go forward in their studies.
After reading the role of both Comprehension and retention it can be said that both
Comprehension and retention skill are the two skill which is required to be held by student
together. The reason behind the same is that both the skills are interdependent on each other to
improve the quality of the learning for the student. As if the student is able to understand the
learning very thoroughly but not able to store it for the longer period of the time than there is no
means of having good comprehensibly learning. At the same time if the student is good at
remembering something but at same time if the student is not having information to remember
then there is no need of having the retention skill (Du and Saini, 2017). So it can be said that
Comprehension and retention skill both the skill used to work together to give the quality of the
learning to the student in their personal and academic study.
Obstacles of building Comprehension and retention
There are many factor which used to prove as a big barrier in building of the
Comprehension and retention for the student at the time of reading and implementing the same in
the academic study. Out of the flow is one of the such barrier as it has been analysed in the past

that if the level of the difficulty used to change in the study than it get difficult for the student to
learn with the same level of the efficiency which eventually lower down the confidence of the
student (Gilakjani and Sabouri, 2016). This is one of the biggest hurdle for building
Comprehension and retention in the student as it has been analysed that the student need to be
confident enough to build the comprehension and retention skill in them.
Another big hurdle which is generally found in all the student in the process of building
the Comprehension and retention is the lack of prioritization, as it is very necessary for all the
student to prioritize the different task and on the basis of the same the different learning has to be
gained (Emke and et.al., 2016). So the student who not used to prioritize there work always find
it difficult to build the Comprehension and retention skills in themselves.
Another barrier of building the Comprehension and retention skill is that it is necessary to
have the learning environment in which the student is trying to learn something as
comprehensive learning is only possible when the student is focus on the objective or the goal
which need to be achieved by the student. Hence learning environment used to play a crucial role
in improving the focus level of the student it is very necessary for all the student to have the
good learning environment to adopt the Comprehension and retention skill otherwise it will get
difficult for the student in building the Comprehension and retention skill.
Patience level of the student also used to be one of the barrier for the student in
developing the comprehension and the retention skill. As the learning never is to easy to adopt or
learn. As a result the student has to pursuit with the same for the longer period of the time. This
help the student in getting the better understanding of the topic. As patience is the thing which is
require by the student to build a good Comprehension and retention skill (Colvin and
et.al.2016). For the student who is lacking in the same it get difficult for him to build a good
comprehensive and retention skill.
There are many emotional factor also which used to affect the student in building a good
Comprehension and retention skill such as Fear, Shame, Emotional Sensitivity and Adjusting to
Change. As it is always important that the individual is emotionally strong to adopt the different
learning (van Dongen and et.al., 2016). This emotional factor also used to be big hurdles in
building Comprehension and retention skill.

After going through the above report it has been summarized that Comprehension skill
help the student in gaining the different learning what is in front of them at the same time
retention skill is the skill which looks at retaining the different knowledge which has been
gathered by the student from the learning. At the same time it has to be remember that both the
skill used to do wonder for the student when they are used together as lack of any one skill will
eventually means that the efficiency of other skill also being affected. After that the report goes
on to summarized that there are many sort of the hurdles which has to be seen in the student who
