INTRODUCTION
Hospitality industry is one of the growing sectors which are broad in size with
different products and services categorised(Moro and Rita, 2018) . It is known as associations
which provide meals, refreshments, drinks and accommodation etc. It includes hotels, motels,
restaurants, inns or businesses which serve short term lodging facilities with or without
serving of food. Thus, hospitality industry is the group of different organisations which
serves food, accommodation and other leisure services. It provides services for people who
require overnight accommodation and eating convenience for those who are staying away
from home. Marriott International is one of the largest global luxury hotel chains with enlarge
number of rooms. It is a diversified multinational company in hospitality sector which
manages broaden portfolio of hotels with lodging facilities. This report includes different
types of business within hospitality industry and range of operational and functional
departments with its contribution in local, national and international economies. Also, it
includes required skills for playing different roles in the industry.

P1 Types of businesses available with various product and services offered in Hospitality
industry
Hospitality is one of the major industries in the world which contributes enormously
in the global economic activity due to its rapid growth. It supports other businesses by
connecting different industries such as transportation, travel and tourism, food and beverages,
entertainment industry. These are as following:
Accommodation- This is one of the largest sector in the hospitality industry. It is
consists of different types of hotels ranging from luxurious to standard hotels. It serves
travellers and guests by offering lodging services for a short term period. These hotels can be
categorised into luxury hotel, spa and leisure hotels, resort hotels, boutique hotels, standard
budgeted hotels etc(Goh and Okumus, 2020). They offer specific services as per the nature of
hotel also with rental rooms and refreshments. The company deals in luxury hotels providing
various services such as spa, playrooms, entertainment halls etc.
Food and Beverages- In hospitality sector most of its business comes from this sector
by offering various styles of cuisine. This helps travellers to choose from different countries

cuisines. In this food is processed and prepared which is further presented on the customer
table. It is consists of fast food, fine dining, casual dining and refreshments etc.
Travel and Tourism- In this sector of hospitality industry avails various services to
travellers. This includes traveller’s guide, organisation and transportation such as airlines,
railways, cruise ships, and rental vehicles etc. This has been one of the fastest growing
sectors in UK due to attractive travelling destination in the country.
Entertainment- It has been one of the crucial sectors in hospitality which helps in
entertaining travellers with cultural and other captivating destinations. These include theme
parks, museums, zoos, theatres, marinas and many more etc. Thus, entertainment has become
an essential part in travelling and hospitality industry. More and more entertainment parks
have opened in various countries specifically for travellers.
Thus, these above four categories in hospitality industry have been essential for
running strong economy like UK. This helps in serving travellers and has been growing at
fast rate. These different types of businesses of industry offers diversified products and
services to satisfy customers with great experience and memorable adventure.

business.
Marriott is a leading hotel chain that provide quality services to its customers by
analysing their requirements and needs. In this process, organisation classify responsibilities
to different department which are known as business operational and functional departments
(Efstathiou and Zippelius, 2019). These departments has a responsibility to serve quality
services by analysing customers and business needs. The analysis of these departments are:
Operational department: These divisions of Marriott international are highly responsible
for managing a smooth flow of all the business activities. These divisions are firm are:
Food and Beverage Department: This department works for the food and drinks
services in order to fulfil needs of customers. In Marriott international, customers are
more likely towards such services thus food and beverage departmentprovides their
effective contribution to customers by managing taste and quality. Employee of this
division functions effectively by managing varieties to maintain a positive image in
front services users.

Front Office:Main objective of this department is to interact with customers as well
as provide service alerts to customers by analysing their requirements and needs. This
department activelyworksto resolve issues and conflicts of services users. Employees
of this division also track records as well as manage all the check in and check out
details.
Functional Department: These divisions are responsible for managing all the functions as
IT, Human resource, marketing, finance and so on in smooth manner. For this responsible
departments of firm are:
HR Department:Human resources department play an essentialrole in Marriott
international. This division is responsible for hiring new candidates according to
business requirement and need (Kandampully, Zhang and Jaakkola, 2018). Major
responsibility of Human resource manager is to conduct on training and development
for the employees in order to enhance their skills and capabilities according to
business requirements and needs.
Finance Department: One major responsibility of finance departments is to manage
funds and cash transactions of business. Marriott is wide hotel chain that provide
numerous services to customers at international level. Thus, this division works for
monitoring, maintaining and supply of funds to different departments in order to
manage business profitability in effective manner.
P3 Discuss the contribution of the hospitality industry to local, national and international
economies.
Hospitality industry provides its own contribution in the economy development
practices. It is analysed that hospitality is one of the fastest growing industry that helps in
boosting several opportunities of employment, productions, supply and so on. On the other
hand, this sector provides its contribution to promote culture of a country at worldwide
level.This industry is not even provide development opportunities to local economy but also
to national and international economy at the same time. The analysis and contribution of this
sector in economy development is determine below:
Local Economy- As the hospitality sector consists of different businesses that
provide visitors with a range of services and draw tourists (Li, Ma and Qu, 2017). Vacationer
use on different administrations is consequently acquired and aids the development of the
nearby economy, for example, the advancement of streets and other framework offices, and

furthermore adds to enhancements in vehicle benefits that empower the neighbourhood
economy to extend. On the other hand, it generates revenues for local economy by enhancing

improved their expectations for everyday comforts. This is the greatest commitment of the

International Economy- The accommodation business is comprised of various inns,

Operational Role towards Housekeeping Department: Operational role of
housekeeping department is to maintain hygiene as well as maintain a positive environment.
They provide services by keep the hotel clean and fresh in order to attract the customers. This
department manage all the practices related to accommodation.
Operational Role of Receptionist: Main operational responsibility of this
departments is to develop interaction with guests in order to evaluate their requirements and
