INTRODUCTION
Hospitality industry refers to the various businesses that has the relation with the
customers in providing value and satisfaction to them. It includes all the functional and
operational areas which are helping to serve the customers. The Savoy Hotel is taken as base
company. The Savoy Hotel is a luxury hotel which is established in 1886 by Carte's family which
is specialised in providing services to customers in their hotels such as different types of rooms
and suites with various restaurants and cafes. They are working globally and its headquarter is
in UK. In this report, it covers the structure, scope and size of the hospitality industry. It also
includes the current and anticipated skills that are required in this industry. Along with this,
internal and external factors that impact the hospitality industry and the current and potential
trends are explained.
P1 Different types of business the diverse products and services that they offer in the hospitality
industry
Hospitality industry is a broad industry which has different businesses and their
offerings. These all businesses are working keeping in mind the satisfaction and value of the
customers (Alkipsy, 2019). In context to the selected organisation, there are various types of
business and their offerings in the hospitality industry are mentioned below-
Food and beverages: Food and beverages is the serving of meals, snacks and
beverages to the customers in hotels during their stay. The Savoy Hotel provides in-room dining
as well has different restaurants and bars such as Thames Foyer, Savoy Grill, Kasper's at The
Savoy and Simpson's in the Stand which are the popular among the customers. Associated
British Foods is one of the largest food and beverages in UK which is famous for producing
ingredients such as emulsifiers, lactose and enzymes.
Accommodation: Accommodation in hospitality industry comprises of different types of
rooms and the amenities provided to the customers. The Savoy Hotel offers more than 250
luxury rooms and suites with different views such as Superior Queen rooms, Deluxe King
rooms, Luxury Double Double rooms and many more. They also provide suites such as Junior
suite, Balcony Junior suite at River View, The Savoy Suite and many more which are attracted
by the customers. Along with The Savoy, The Dorchester is one of the famous hotel for
accommodation in UK and it is recognised as the most prestigious and expensive hotels. They
are offering 250 rooms with 49 suites.

Timeshare: It is one of the most important sectors of the hospitality industry where
people can enjoy. The selected hotel provides with spacious areas for people to celebrate their
functions and weddings as well as attain meeting (Amable, 2017). Akeld Manor Timeshare is
one of the most beautiful timeshare resort in UK where it has all the amenities such as sauna,
Jacuzzi and so on. It is close to the beaches on the borders.
P2 Operational and functional departments of hospitality business
The hospitality industry runs with the right people working in right departments. In
context to the selected hotel, in order for smooth running of the hotel, they have various types of
operational and functional department which are mentioned below-
Operational departments:
Housekeeping department: It is considered as the most important department of the
hotel which has a direct impact on the customer experience. This department make sure that all
the areas of hotel are neat and clean and maintain their standards. The housekeeper of The
Savoy Hotel clean all the areas and rooms after the guests checkout and before the arrival of
new guests.
Food production department: This department make sure to prepare all the meals in a
hygienic manner regarding all the food safety laws in mind. The chefs, cook and kitchen
manager of The Savoy Hotel make sure that all the meal prepared of the guests should be
according to the taste and preferences of the customers.
Food and beverages service department: The Savoy Hotel make sure that staff
members such as waiter, waitress who are working in this department should maintain their
standards as they represents the hotel. They should be aware of all the food and beverages
that are serving to the customers in a proper hospitable manner.
Front office department: In context to the selected hotel, the front office department
members are the first one to interact with the guests (Asogwa, 2018). This department is
responsible for welcoming the guests in a proper manner. They have responsibility to assign
rooms to the guests and also provide information that the guests wants.
Functional departments:
Marketing department: Marketing department of The Savoy Hotel make sure to carry out
all the marketing areas of the areas (Farrukh, 2020). They have the responsibility of doing
marketing research for new product development and the demands of their customers. Along
with this they are also responsible for advertisements and marketing campaigns for the hotel.
