Contribution of the hospitality industry to local, national and international economies:Hospitality in UK is the 4th largest employer, offering more than 3.2 million direct jobs and a further 2.8 million indirect jobsThe hospitality & the tourism sector have brought 73 billion pounds to the economy just last year only. Different types of business within the hospitality industry and the diverse products andservices they offer:Food and beverages:- this sector within the hospitality industry is professionally known by itsinitials as F&B is the wider segment of this sector. This might include as simple as bistro allthe way to a high end restaurant and every catering establishment in between. Travel a& tourism :- this business within hospitality deals with services in relation to movingpeople from place to place. This is the vast sector with various key players across the globe.The key function of this business is to encourage people to travel. Lodging :- it refers to accommodation for a period or a place to sleep for one or more nights.This is also termed as a broader sector within hospitality ranging from bed and breakfast toother services. Recreation :- this is another form of business, as an activity that people do for rest, relaxationand entertainment. The purpose of this activity is to refresh an individual's body and mind. Range of operational and functional departments within a chosenhospitality business: Core operational departments of Hamilton's Boutique Hotel:Housekeeping department: this department of the hotel is very crucialdepartment in hospitality sector. As it is responsible for cleaning thehotel's guest rooms and public spaces. Front office department: this refers to the command post for thereservations, bookings, take in charge, etc. Other activities included in thisare; sending mails, allocations of rooms and so on. Food & production department: preparation of food is handled by thissection, as it is their responsibility to ready dishes or menus. Core functional departments:1.Marketing & selling: it has been found that this department has becomeone of the most important function of the hotel business, as it involvespackaging of selling, sales, promotion, etc. 2.Finance department: this department is responsible for managing andkeeping track of many business transactions that happen in the hotel. 3.Safety & security department: this is very important and essential part ofthe hotel because the security of guests, workers, and property is of greatconcern for today's hotels.
