Answer 1:
During the time of First Crusade, which is around 1095-99, the Alexius Commenus aka
Alexios I Komnenos was the emperor of the Byzantine Kingdom, which is on the eastern part of
the old Roman Territory located in Asian minor, Greece. He is the founder of the Comnenian
dynasty, who partly reinstated the strength of the kingdom after its conquest by the Turks and
Normans in the eleventh century. Pope Urban II was a pope who is known for commencing the
First Crusade and established the Roman Curia in the way of a royal ecclesiastical court
(Sweetenham).
Answer 2:
The Muslims aspect regarding the Crusade is that it is a present threat, not just a medieval
one, the perpetual purpose of the western is to undermine Islam, whether cultural colonialism or
physical one. Another aspect is that they consider Western’s as cross-eyed barbarians, they are
not the extreme edge of civilisation instead, they are only taking advantage and warming their
hands in the fire of civilisation.
Answer 3:
Pope Urban II’s speech of the middle age is one of the most influential speeches of all
times in history; it was delivered by him on 27th November 1095. It arises the Crusades by giving
a call to the Christians to start a war against Muslims in Europe in order to regain the Holy Land
with the help of using the Latin term which means ‘Gods wills it’! Pope in his speech mentioned
about the atrocities that are committed against Christians in Jerusalem.
