Invitation
You are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the IT Capstone Projects
Group (ITCPG) in accordance with the submission guidelines stated in this document for the
“Network Solution”.
Background
Aconex Limited is an Australian software company which serves mobile as well as
web-based software applications which acquires project information and process
management. The founder of the Aconex Limited are Leigh Jasper and Robert Philpot who
founded this in 2000. It has focused on the online cooperation services (Redwood et al.2017).
In 2016, they have received award for their performance of the team work, cost savings
features, efficiency and strong process improvements. Since its most of the work is based on
cloud and mobile cooperation it deals with lot of data. It has served many products such as
Aconex platform, Connected BIM, etc.
This organization is facing problem within the network as there is loss of data and
there is no mechanism of replication of data. Moreover, loss of data is an error circumstance
which leads to destruction of information. Hence, this project will implement backup and
provide recovery for the issue.

Key Business Objectives
The objective of this project is to provide solution for preventing the loss of data. Since
this organization does not have the redundancy system in the network, it would need some
mechanism of replication and this project will implement that. The following are the key
objectives.
To prevent loss of data and provide easy maintenance.
Using VPN connect would lead to access to replication of changes in data.
To provide a network system to automatically replicate the data that are being
exchanged between Master Server and Client server.
The Master Server of the network would be able to replicate the file system to the
client server so that the data is not lost.
Key Stakeholders
Client
Aconex Limited whose Headquarter are in Melbourne, Australia.
Co-founder and CEO- Leigh Jasper
Co-founder- Robert Phillpot
Other
The employee who work as Network system administrator.

Business Requirements (or Project Scope)
Overview
This project is comprised of VPN technology which helps to build an encrypted
connection over the internet (Outen 2014). A virtual private network works by using shared
infrastructure while maintaining the privacy through tunnelling protocols (Alshalan,
Pisharody and Huang 2015). The data is being encrypted before sending then it is decrypted
at the receiver end.
The remote access VPN clients connects to the particular ‘gateway’ server on the
network. Then the gateway needs the device to verify the identity before giving permission to
access into the internal network to gain the resources such as servers, information, intranets,
etc (Fei et al. 2013). The Firewall is responsible to do this part of authentication.
The Edge router is placed in between the VPN server and the Firewall which will
enable the internal network to connect to the external networks (Jutila 2016). The Edge router
may use dynamic routing procedure or static routing to maintain the sending and receiving of
the data (Chang et al. 2015). It has two types, which are: subscriber edge routers and label
edge routers.

The VPN server is commonly a standard server that is installed in the system. It
provides VPN connection so that the remote clients can access and it applies protocols for
connectivity such as PPP point-to-point protocol (Simion et al. 2013). VPN hardware has two
primary keys, these are: computing hardware and networking hardware, which helps in
building and hosting the connection (Lacković and Tomić 2017). While the VPN software
helps in authenticating the client server.
The Client Server or PC is nothing but the computer on the user side which requests
for a connection to the Master Server (Oluwatosin 2014).
The Master server replication allows to store data in the server computers and update
of the data can only be done by the administrator unless any other computer is given
permission. Replication is used to have multiple copies of data at different locations which
results in database redundancy. Master server can make modifications in the data that are
present in the file system. The server replication depicts a set of technologies to distribute the
copied data among different databases. Although, the entire data is not shared, but selected
parts are distributed to access.
This project is designed in such a way that the replication process would
automatically start working in the background by the Master Server. Whatever modification
that would be done in the data will automatically get updated but replication would be for
selected segments. Then the Client server can access the Master server to access the
replicated files before and after the modification.
Deliverables
The following things would be served by the project as deliverables.

Analysis
o Requirement analysis
o Feasibility study
o Analysis models
o User requirement validation
Design for the set up
o User interface design
o Setup of Master-slave replication
o Two file servers for Master and slave.
o Developed master server to replicate
o Developed Client server to access replication
Time Frame
Since this is a 26 week project, which means 13weeks per semester. Planning and
requirement analysis would be done within first 9 weeks and later part are shown in the table:
Requirement analysis and Planning 9 weeks
Feasibility study 4 weeks
Analysis models 6 weeks
User requirement validation 1 week
Design 6 weeks

Resources
This project will be handled by our group, firstly every group members would get
involved in requirement analysis and planning. Since at the beginning only it has assumed
that every group members are the IT professionals hence, the system analysts would do the
feasibility study for the solution and would design the analysis models. The technical support
would work on user requirement validation and the Network engineers would do the network
design, which is the actual implementation of the project.
Acceptance (Key Success Factors)
Some key factors for successful implementation:
The project will be delivered on time.
The provided system will be user friendly.
The scale-out solution will be provided for the product.
Assumptions, Constraints and Risks
Assumptions:
All the parts of the entire setup will be accessible on time.
Master and Slave server will be provided for necessary replication of file system.
All the members of the group will be available throughout the whole processing of the
project.
Every segment of the setup will be tested under every group member for
clarifications.
Constraints:

The organization would get limited data for analysing the system in the early stage, as
this solution will be new for the organization.
Policies of the company will be followed by the project team for the liabilities. To
provide secure usage and protection of the data.
Risks:
Some segment of the data might not get replicated by the Master server.
Problems can arise will implementing the Servers, which can lead to technical issues.
Privacy issues may arise due to the replication therefore, strong and strict security for
the replication process may needed.
Conclusion
The project is based on the infrastructure of the Network using some connectivity
technologies and building servers for accessing data. The entire project is requires the
involvement of each member of the group. The group is very efficient and to fulfil the criteria
of the requirement. The organization will be satisfied by the provided solution.
