Appendix A – Learning Story – The Good Doctor
Title The Good Doctor
Description of the experience – Mona, I saw you open your little
clinic today. You put your stethoscope and doctors coat and then
announced that your clinic was open for business. I was your first
patient and you examined me thoroughly.
I was very glad that I had such a good doctor to help me. “You
have the elf fever, one glass of milk and broccoli.
You will be alright,” you said. I was very glad to have such a good
doctor examine me.
Seeing us play, Sean wanted to join in so you told him he could be
your nurse and help you with operation and selling medicine.
You took the chart for body parts from the classroom and hung it
behind your clinic.
When Poppy came in with a headache, Sean and you gave her a
hug and some juice to make her feel better. When Sean wanted to
pay as the doctor you happily gave him the stethoscope.
Poppy I was very happy when you approached Mona And Sean, it
was nice to see you overcome your shyness and make friends.

Analysis & Interpretation of the learning of children - What it means?
Mona, I was very happy to see how imaginatively you engaged in play acting doctor (‘Cognitive’, QKLG, 2018). You were
confident and independent while improvising with setting up your clinic (‘Self-help’, QLKG, 2019). You had such good
knowledge of body parts, and showed good recollection of things taught in class and successfully implementing them in

your play by learning effectively (‘Learning’, EYLF, 2018).
Sean you were great as well, you were happy to share tasks with Mona and showing great coordination skills and
teamwork ( ‘Social’,QKLG, 2019) Mona and Sean both of you showed wonderful empathy and concern for Poppy when
she came in with a headache ( ‘Wellbeing’,QKLG,2019). I was happy to see both of you treat Poppy with kindness and
made her feel at ease. You both showed empathy and skills to solve range of problems (‘Cognitive’, EYLF, 2019) In
addition both of you were very helpful and resourceful in taking care Poppy ( ‘Cognitive’, EYLF, 2019)
I was very happy to notice that Mona you displayed sharing skills when you shared your doctor role with Sean (‘Social’,
EYLF, 2019). You did not fight but shared your toy with Sean exhibiting sharing concept (‘Wellbeing’, QKLG, 2010).
Poppy you were great at overcoming your shyness and interacting with others and making new friends. (‘Social’, QKLG,
2018)
COGNITIVE- Mona showed very good cognitive thinking by portraying a very realistic version of a doctor. She wore the
right kind of attire and wore appropriate clothing to suit the role.
Sean and Mona displayed cognitive skills when they helped Poppy with empathy and kindness. They also helped her sit
by pulling the chair, offering her juice. Mona is very imaginative and creative while making up my disease and
prescribing medicine.
LEARNING- Mona showed good knowledge of remembering parts of the body. It was interesting to observe that she
treated her patients using stethoscope and could use proper pronunciation while speaking.
SOCIAL- Mona and Sean collaborated while playing and dividing task between each other. Good display of teamwork,
also, Poppy was wonderful when she overcame her shyness and made friends with Mona and Sean.
SELF-HELP- Mona did not seek help from anyone but set the clinic all by herself, using nearby resources, such as
collecting chair and table, setting up the chart to name a few.
WELLBEING-Mona and Sean both displayed empathy to help Poppy from her headache. Providing her with a place to sit,
offering her juice and hug. They displayed genuine care and concern for their playmate.
