1. What is meant by ‘learning’ from ‘experience’? How do you learn or manage your own
learning as a professional manager?
Learning comes from experience. It is important to perform all the tasks effectively and
learn from them. A person can become successful and perform the work given more efficiently if
he has performed that before. The own experience helps a person to work and manage all the
things better. It is a process of learning by doing (Bourke and Roper, 2017). If there are problems
in the path while completing a task they can be better solved the next time. Experience means
performing a task by own self. An individual learns in many ways and one of them is through
experience. It provides a lot of knowledge through experience. As the emotions are developed
while experience they help in learning.
Manager has a lot of responsibilities that he has to accomplish. It is not easy to manage
an organisation and make all the employees work. All the employees are different band making
them work towards common objective is the duty of manager. Motivating the employees is the
very important task that a manager has to do. I learned about this firstly in my education. I did
Masters in Business administration where I was taught that it is important to motivate employees
is that they can accomplish the goals on time (Alshorman and Bawaneh, 2018). That was my
learning experience that I had due to studies. When I was manager I learnt that it is important to
understand all the employees to make them work. There are various conflicts that arise between
employees that I learned to solve. As if there are problems in the organisation the productivity
gets hampered. I learned all this through my experience as manager. In future if the same
situation will arise I will be able to deal with it easily.
2. Apply the ERA cycle (Jasper, 2013) to your current managerial role and draw the
implications.
ERA cycle is a model to reflect the experience of a person. I am working as Human
Resource manager in an organisation. There I have to recruit and select the skilled employees
and also provide them training and development. It is a nice experience as interacting with new
people gives me happiness. There I have to manage all the employees and understand their needs
and wants. All the employees come from diversified places and I have to make them comfortable
and provide goods working environment where they can work and achieve the goals and
objectives on time.

In the second stage of this model reflection is mentioned. I like interacting with new
people and also I have god skills to analyse people. This has helped me in my professional life.
Being a HR manger I have to recruit and select employees. It is important to select skilled
individuals that can perform the tasks on time (Morecroft, 2018). My analytical skills helped me.
Also proper training helped them to perform all the tasks effectively. I come to know that it is
important to solve all the problems that arise between them.
In future I want to join a big company and become HR Manager there. For that I need to
develop my writing skills. As that are also required and are important. I will work more on my
communication skills so that I can communicate and understand the employees better.
3 What is a critical incident? Now think of a recent incident that you would describe as critical.
Use the five headings given by Flanagan (1954) draw your own conclusion.
Critical incident in a workplace means happening of event that is sudden. In simple
words it is happening of an unexpected event (Gőgh, and Kővári, 2019). This means that no one
is prepared for the even when it arises. A critical condition that was faced by all of us was
COVID 19. There are many problems post COVID 19. General aim the safety and security of
all the employees post COVID 19. The consequences on the organisation were seen afterwards
also. The five steps given by Flanagan in relation to the critical situation is described. Plans and
specification it is important to make plans that are related to safety of employees. Asking them
to join and managing all the employees was a task that needs proper formulation of strategies.
Collecting the data it is vital to collect information related to employees. How many employees
are ready to join and are all disease free. Analysing the data is essential to draw conclusions and
make policies. This will help to take further actions that are beneficial for them and organisation.
Interpreting means the drawn data is understood and interpreted. This is last but not the least
step.
Critical incident is uncertain and when no one is ready. It is important to take measures
so that the situation comes in control. As it is being done in the above situation to manage the
working of employees post COVID 19.

It is my area of interest to become Human Resource manager. I took education for the same
and I am also working as a HR Manager. It is right said that a person learn from experience. I
used to feel that I have good analytical skills. But after recruiting people I came to know that I
need to develop these skills to better analyse the individuals. It is vital to know and understand
all the employees that are working in the organisation.
As mentioned earlier I have good communication skills but that to I need to develop them
further. As a Human Resource Manager should have excellent and fluent communication skills. I
would try my best and learn to speak more fluently (Darwin, 2017). As this will help me to
interact better with the employees. I also need to work on my writing skills. As writing skills is
essential in my daily work. By practicing and reading I will improvise my skills.
I have experienced that the employees face many problems. So I need to develop conflict
solving ability. It is important to understand the problem and then give suggestion. All the
employees are important and it is vital to treat them equally. I also want to learn skills that
motivate employees and engage them. It is vital that there should be activities and programmes
in organisation that engage the employees. This helps to motivate them. Also the employees that
are motivated work effectively. All these skills will help to me to become a successful Human
Resource Manager.
