Introduction
The Roper, Logan and Tierney nursing care model is based on day to day activities of
individuals. Activities of living encourage independence through evaluation in areas where is
it impossible for an individual on their own. Promoting individual independence is vital in
person-centered care. As this theory mainly concentrates on promoting individual
independence it will help me in the future while providing person-centered care to the
patients. The activities of living to compare the potential for independence and individual's
independence and to determine what interventions are necessary to increase independence
and what support is needed to compensate dependency. The theory can be applied by me as
the approach to resolve the problem and as the tool to support improvement in patient health
and challenges (Cutcliffe, McKenna & Hyrkäs, 2010). This model is helpful in providing
effective care by examining patient's needs, patient's specific preferences and abilities. The
biological, psychological, sociocultural, environmental and politico-economic factors are
used to determine relative independence of an individual's. In biological factor, the overall
health and anatomy are considered which is important to me in future professional life as a
nursing professional. For example, while offering person-centered care it should be kept in
mind that nutritional activities are different in diabetic and nondiabetic patients. In
psychological factor emotions, beliefs and ability to understand are taken into consideration
(Boykin & Schoenhofer, 2014). While offering person-centered care it should be kept in
mind that lack of literacy also impacts independence in health promotion. As a nursing
professional, offering person-centered care, I should keep in mind the societies expectations
from a person and the impact of those expectations on the health and ability to carry out
activities daily.
Description
I have learned that while offering person-centered care, elements of the model has to be taken
care of. I had used the information of the model while giving the person-centered care to the
patients. I have carried out the healthcare delivery care services on the basis of patient centred
care. In a biological factor, the patients' overall health and anatomy are considered. In person-
centered care, the case of the individual patient is taken into account and specialized
treatment is provided to the patient as per his needs (Williams, 2017). The Roper, Logan and
Tierney model of nursing care has mainly focused on the activities of daily living. The model

is mainly concerned with promoting individual independence which plays a significant role in
person-centered care. In psychological factor emotions, beliefs and ability to understand are
taken into account so while offering person-centered care I will take into account the mental
state of the patient receiving person-centered care (Doenges, Moorhouse & Murr, 2014).
Lack of literacy can impact independence on health promotion so as a nurse I will consider
this aspect while providing person-centered care.
Feelings
I was able to carry out my work in an appropriate manner. I was very much confident while
carrying out the healthcare services that were being provided to the patient. The development
of personal relationship assists to understand the issues of the patient in an appropriate
manner. I have gathered a deep understanding of Roper Roper, Logan and Tierney’s domains
of Biological, Socio-cultural, Psychological, Politico-economic and Environmental factors. I
have learned that the biological factors depict the impact of the injury, illness and overall
health I have found that person-centered care is important for providing quality healthcare
services to patients (George, 2011). The psychological factor depicts the impact of the
cognition, emotion, ability to understand and spiritual belief. I have learned that the socio-
culture factor depicts the impact of culture and society on the patient. It consists of values and
expectations based on the status and culture related to the values and beliefs of the patient. I
have found that environmental factor shows that impact of the environment on the daily
activities of an individual. I have found political-economic factor shows the impact of the
economy, politics, and government on the daily activities of an individual (Im & Ju Chang,
2012). It consists of factors such as funding, government policies, conflict or warm, political
reforms, availability of interest rates and benefits.
Evaluation
The learning experience worked for me very well because it directed to provide adequate
healthcare services. However, I faced problems in gathering knowledge but I was able to grab
the concept of Roper, Logan and Tierney model. I have found that nurses should
communicate and coordinate care between different departments and individuals I believe
that nurses should have the right level of skills, experience, and knowledge in order to
achieve it. It supports people to effectively manage health care delivery processes and ensures
that individuals are treated always with compassion, respect, and dignity (Taylor, 2015). I

have learned that the healthcare organizations should encourage their nurses to involve in
planning and decision-making process in order to ensure quality care. The patient is to be
involved in the clinical process in order to implement the best way for treatment, care, and
rehabilitation. Empathy, kindness, warmth, and sensitivity are the characteristics which
should be taken into account while dealing with the patients (Parnell, 2015).
Analysis
I faced problem in understanding how a patient can be managed in an appropriate manner
because it is difficult to understand the issues and needs. I have learned that the theory assists
to carry out an assessment throughout the process of patient care. It assisted me to develop
my learning in an efficient manner. I was very much confident but I have to enhance my
personal skills and knowledge. I have used the theory to assess how the life of individual
changes due to the impact of the factors. I have also noticed how the independence and
quality of the life of patient changes (Roper, Logan & Tierney, 2009). I have found that the
interventions of the activities of an individual can assist to understand the problems and
implementing an adequate procedure for providing care. The learning experience is
considered to be important in comparison to earlier learning experiences because it provided
a detailed overview of managing a patient.
Conclusion
I have learned that the key components that need to be taken into are knowing the patient,
being responsive, respecting the needs, values and preferences of the individual, fostering
trusting relationships, ensuring freedom of choice, promoting physical and emotional comfort
and involving the friends and family of the person.
Action plan
I have learned that the Roper Roper, Logan and Tierney model can be used to assess the
relative independence of the patient. The independence of patience focuses on the stages of
complete independence to dependence. It assists to evaluate what interventions would lead to
enhancement of independence and ongoing support would be needed for decreasing the
dependency (Elsherif & Noble, 2011). The patient needs to be assessed consisting of his or
her independence and dependence throughout the healthcare process. The person-centered

care will allow the nurse to determine the changes in independence and dependence and
viewing whether the patient is recovering or not.
I have learned that person-centered care focus on the personal needs, desires, goals, and
desires of the individuals. It allows to carry out the work by focusing on the needs of the
patient and also providing the most appropriate medication procedure (Ghebrehiwet, 2011).
The medical diagnosis can be successful only when the nurse is able to understand the
problem and needs of the patient in an appropriate manner. The nurses have to focus on the
continuous learning process in order to gather knowledge and information on theories,
concepts and treatment techniques (Fitch, Nicoll & Bennie, 2014). I have learned and found
that patient-centered care is considered too important for ensuring patient safety and quality
healthcare delivery process.
