1THEOLOGY AND COUNSELLING
The respective paper is a case study of a student and his dilemmas regarding the career
option he needs to choose due to peer pressure as well as societal pressure. The respective paper
focuses on the case study, tries to find out the problem the respective student faces and the
solution which the paper proposes is a blend of psychological as well as theological counseling.
The paper provides an insight of theology that can be taken as a counseling tool for the
millennial of today. The paper also highlights the importance of religion and spiritual awakening
in an individual’s life and how it shapes the mind and body of the individual in an intrinsic as
well as instrumental way (Frederick, 2014).
The case study is about James, who is a senior student of college, earlier aspiring to
become a pastor but due to peer pressure, taken up the career option of “engineering” for good
prospects and opportunities in case of jobs and career. However, even though he finally took the
path of engineering, he was spiritually demoralized to move on with the subject in the upcoming
years because, according to him, after a few years of studies, he had started to feel bored of the
subject. Another characteristic of James was that James visited the church often, while his
parents seldom visited the church. Such act depicted the religious bent of James’ mind. He has
leadership qualities and confidence and he believes that Almighty had sent him to emancipate the
world. Applying the transformational approach of counseling which includes spiritual
awakening, the respective case can be dealt with by including the three questions of Christian
awakening: 1- What can you (James) learn from my pain? 2- Should you start rethinking about
your thinking? 3- Can you imagine a God who truly desires for you what is good? With the help
of these insightful philosophical questions and interrogations, James would be provided with a
complete rethinking process (Greggo & Sisemore, 2012). Biblical interpretation of actions,
which says that whatever happens, happens for a cause can be inculcated in his counsel. The
