Introduction
Social groups are a basic part of human life and they are found almost everywhere. A
social group is made up of more than one individual who interacts on a regular basis. In addition,
members of a group share a common identity and unity. This report addresses the role played by
my team-mates, the functioning of the team, and how the team can improve.
Some of the roles that we played in the group include the shaper roles whereby we faced
all the problems we encountered, maintaining a positive attitude while formulating the best
strategy to solve the challenges. Such challenge that was experienced is the difficulty of
gathering information to complete our assignment (Galegher, Kraut & Egido, 2014, pp.91). Also,
we played the implementer role. We ensured that all tasks in the team were completed. While
gathering data to complete the assignment, the team’s ideas and thoughts were applied. In
addition, we played the completer role whereby we strived to ensure that we adhered to the
deadline for completing and submitting the assignment. Nonetheless, the team worker role was
also applied. In this role, we ensured that the team remained united despite facing challenges in
gathering data. Lastly, in the team, we applied the role of monitor-evaluator. In this case, critical
analysis was done to ensure that we adhered to assignment’s requirement.
The team was efficient in the manner in which it functioned. The first stage while
analyzing innovation involved conducting a meeting using the team’s private discussion forum
and selecting the best company to analyze. In this case, Google was selected as the company to
be analyzed. The team members then evaluated the assignment’s requirement to ensure that all
requirements were met. The research was then carried out to determine Google’s innovation
management, the failures as well as successes that are related to the company. In addition,

critical thinking was as well used while completing the assignment. After all the data was
gathered, the assignment was typed and proofread to ensure that it contained no errors. Keeping
the focus on the deadline for submitting the assignment, we completed the assignment on time
and submitted it.
For the team to operate better in the future, implementation of these recommendations is
critical. First, the teacher should emphasize the importance of teamwork before the formation of
groups. Particularly, the teacher should define the reason for doing the assignment in groups
(Salmon, Stanton & Jenkins, 2017, pp.54). Also, the teacher should teach teamwork skills since
most of the teammates tend not to be aware how to function efficiently. Notwithstanding, in
building cohesive groups, team-building exercises should be used. The members should be given
an opportunity to know their team-mates and they should be motivated to give suggestions on
how they want to work together.
Conclusion
Working together as a group is very important since it reduces the workload. In
addition, it creates a sense of well-being as well as the feeling of being accepted by the society.
In a school’s setting, teamwork enhances sharing of ideas and improves efficiency when doing
assignments. Thus, it is important that students are educated on the importance of working as a
team.
