CHAPTER 1 –INTRODUCTION
Project management is referred to a process that finds out and applies the most relevant
and the best method for managing and controlling work through different stages where every
stage is accomplishing something for adding up to the ultimate objective of the project.
PRINCE2 is basically an acronym used for Projects IN Controlling Environments, which is a
process based methodology used for managing projects. This is a tool which is commonly used
by the government of the United Kingdom but private sector has been adopting the method and
few other places in the world as well. PRINCE2 is a methodology which focuses on developing a
defined structure of an organisation for managing project teams providing business justifications
and using a product based approach. The tool is effective enough and provides the project
managers great control over the project and the resources which are being used along with
enabling them to excel at managing business and project risks more effectively.
The present designation is based on the IT industry of Germany which is known as the
single largest IT market within the entire Europe. Information technology is an industry which is
going under rapid developments and revolutions bringing innovations creative products to serve
people. The IT industry includes number of activities like software development, consultancies,
online service provisions, software management and business process outsourcing (BPO).
Agile methodology has become a very famous and commonly used tool in in software
development biotechnology companies in the modern world. This is a practice that promotes
continuous iteration enabling development and testing in the entire software on different life
cycle of the project. Basically through agile methodology both development and testing activities
are concurrent taking place at the same time. the agile software development methodology e is
known to be the simplest and effective process today's IT industry. Germany is known to be an
IT hub where the industry is developing and evolving on a regular and rapid basis providing
effective results. Agile methodology is one of the common software development technique
which is being adopted by different organisations in the world and Germany being the hub for IT
industry it has also adopted the methodology with open arms and for developing potential results
out of it.

1.1 Research Aims, Questions and Objectives
Research Aims:
Research aim is a statement developed through a process which is completely focusing
over making a systematic plan for a meeting the dissertation in the most successful manner. In
the present dissertation work research aim is developed in alliance with the research title which
is a very important aspect to consider for completing all the activities properly. Hence, the aim of
the research is “To study the change of technologies or project management in IT industry of
Germany from PRINCE2 to Agile Methodology”.
Research Questions:
Research question are the respective questions that are made to cover important areas in
order to attain the research aim and objectives. For this dissertation some of the research
questions that are effective and useful for collecting the required amount of information in
regards to the study are as follows:
 What are the advantages and drawbacks while switching from PRINCE2 to Agile
Methodology in IT industry in Germany?
 What are the problems employees will face during such transition?
 What is the relevance of Change management, among the employees while switching
from PRINCE2 to Agile in the IT sector in Germany?
 How to optimize project management tools according to the identified problems?
Research Objectives:
Research objectives are the narrowed down stages of a research aim. That means simple
words that when research a is divided into number of stages for making critical analysis and
collecting appropriate evidence for supporting the conclusions and results of the restoration these
are known as research objectives. Some of the research objectives are presented below for the
respective dissertation:
 To examine the advantages and drawbacks while switching from PRINCE2 to Agile
Methodology in IT industry in Germany
 To exploring the problems employees will face during such transition
 To identify the relevance of Change management, among the employees while switching
from PRINCE2 to Agile in the IT sector in Germany

 To determine the optimization of project management tools according to the identified
problems
1.2 Value and Target audience
This research is conducted in regards to the IT industry of Germany which Excel
provides a very important value to it as Germany has the largest IT structure in Europe and
stands at the top position. There are various people who will be provided huge value through this
research like the company is working in the IT sector of Germany, the researcher, and many
others industries associated with it. The research will enable the investigator to collect
appropriate amount of data for providing evidence to their work as well as enable them to earn
number of skills which are beneficial for them in present as well as future.
Some of the skills between be developed by the researcher this project are time
management skills, critical thinking and analytical skills, innovative and creative Idea
development skills, decision making and communication skills. A lot of many other skills which
will be developed by the researchers but these are some of the key skills. Also, the present
research work will be facilitating the students and their academic by offering them and critical
understanding of both the project management tools that is PRINCE2 and Agile Methodology
their usefulness in project management activities for respective IT companies of IT industry of
Germany.
Rationale of study
This study is based on the title “Analysis of PRINCE2 and Agile methodology: Focus on
IT industry in Germany” and it aims to study the change of technologies or project management
in IT industry of Germany from PRINCE2 to Agile Methodology. The main reason of
performing this research is that information technology industry is consistently to grow which
requires it to adopt appropriate methodology. By the assistance of this research study, the
researcher will be able to examine the advantages as well as drawbacks while switching from
PRINCE 2 to agile methodology in the information technology industry in Germany. Apart from
this, it also helps in exploring the issues which the employees face during the process of
transition in the organisation. In addition to this, the research study is also significant in
determining the relevance of change management for the employees when switching from
PRINCE 2 to agile methodology in information Technology sector in Germany. Moreover,

researcher is able to determine the optimisation of project management tools as per the identified
issues in the project. The research study is highly significant in order to enhance the knowledge
of researcher and provide the investigator with deep insights on the topic as well as the areas
associated with the topic. This study is not only significant for the industry purpose but is also
important for academic purpose. This study further helps scholars to carry on study on the
similar topic in future as this study act as a base for them to study further.
1.3 Scope and Constraints
Scope:
The scope of the present assignment is wide enough as it is looking over the IT industry
of Germany which is one of the largest in the world. Along with it by the help of the research
there are number of core target audiences which will be benefited as well as they will be getting
index and critical knowledge about both PRINCE2 and Agile Methodology tools of project
management. The research also has appropriate scope because it involves number of methods
processes used for collecting information in the best manner possible from the exact resources
within the given time frame.
Constraint:
A constraint refers to the limitation of a respective task or a project. The respective
dissertation project has number of constraints which will be affecting the process and the
procedure which will be conducted for making the project a success. The constants like cost,
time, efficiency, effectiveness, risks and most importantly resources. This respective component
supports a research project but it can also effect its development and limit its success if are not
available in the required number and quantity.
1.4 Structure of the document
Structure of a dissertation is an important part of the work being conducted as it an
outline of the entire project and different chapters that are going to be covered and will be
required for completing all the respective activities in the most systematic and arithmetic
manners. There are of total five chapters in this research assignment which are needed to be
completed systematically and successfully. These chapters are as follows:
