a) Introduction
This dissertation explores how digital technology has influenced daily life. “There is almost
no area in which digital technology has not impacted me and my family’s life”, said Larry Irving,
one of the earliest forces to identify and seek to narrow the digital divide. My aim is to look at what
the internet has brought to our lives and how have we benefitted from the internet, by looking at a
key feature that is “communication”. How has communication in the digital world altered the way
we choose to interact with one another? As we become more dependent on digital technologies,
how may this affecting us mentally and physically? What should be addressed in order to live
healthy in the digital age? I have been monitoring the daily use of my phone, I have realized that it
would be very difficult to operate my day without it. After researching the symptoms of smartphone
addiction, like low concentration, anxiety, stress, and loneliness, I have come to the realization that
I am addicted to my phone. The internet is an amazing but it’s so much more than this, yet having a
smartphone in constant reach, there seems to be a stronger pull towards checking information and
communication? unnecessarily, I feel constantly connected to something. Having had this
realization, it has drawn me to observe the access? What their behavioral patterns are when using
their devices. How the new ways of communication may be affecting the coming generation. The
degree of orthography may alter as a result of how we learn through technology. Texting has
become a verb and we are developing a new vernacular.1 Our kinesthetic abilities are being
disrupted by text abbreviations and the desire to communicate via email and messaging rather than
face-to-face interactions. 2 As Humans are inherently social beings how have the last couple of
years necessary social change increased the way we depend on digital technology?
Through research published in the journal the journal ‘Communication in the Digital World:
An Evaluation of Orthography of WhatsApp messaging’, Yasir presented an in-depth investigation
1 (An orthography is a set of conventions for writing a language, including norms for writing a
language, norms of spelling, hyphenation, capitalization, word breaks, emphasis, and punctuation)
2 (Kinesthetic is the study of bodily movement and the conscious and unconscious experience of
one's own body motions.)

regarding how life has been changed due to the propagation of social media, and how this
influences our modes of life due to our dependency on internet-based technologies. The dependence
is increasing day by day, in part as it lets us do things more efficiently and faster’. (Hafiz Syed M.
Yasir, 2021). Through observing our attraction to a faster and more vibrant nature of
communication, Yasir investigates the linguistic variation happening to communication by using
social media. The nature of this article brings me to question how communication today may affect
my daughter’s generation, and to consider what the repercussion maybe. I will be interviewing
Mitch Ogugua, a repetition in music information technology who is a repetition in the relationship
between humans and their use of the super highway.
There are indisputable benefits that have come into our lives as a result of the internet.
Chapter one will raise awareness of the positive applications the internet has brought, such as
convenience, cost effectiveness, as well as a greener approach to living today. Cloud storage data
centres are inherently greener than on-premise data centres, allowing companies to reduce their
carbon footprint simply by moving their data to a cloud provider data center, where they will use
fewer resources and optimize their efficiency. This access to digital storage not only allows for an
increase in data volume it also provides security for information.
Chapter two will examine the ways in which communication has changed due to internet
use. How is this affecting us in regards to the declining? demand to communicating in person? The
dissertation relies on both qualitative and quantitative research. Considered WhatsApp data shows a
change in orthography, abbreviations, numerical expression, and reduction of words. The study will
also explore emotions in the digital age and how social media platforms are affecting us, and the
issue of addiction and distraction as mechanisms to deal with real life.

It will consider how internet addiction disorder challenges our attention span. Examining the
term 'always on,' which refers to the various ways in which we are regularly online and how this
might help or impede our productivity as humans. When one of the side effects of excessive
computer use is freneticism, are younger generations being labelled with depression, OCD, and
ADHD? When we walk away from our gadgets, we should review symptoms from internet use such
as anger, agitation, exhaustion, digestive issues, and poor focus. Chapter 3 will look into the various
options for maintaining healthy emotional control in the modern age. The digital environment is
huge. Managing emotions with health issues and eyes effect while operating in, through, and with
digital technologies is becoming increasingly vital.
b) Chapter 1 –
c) How has the internet helped us to connect, personally and professionally?
d) Introduction of the Chapter
The invention and sociological absorption of new technology are two aspects of humanity's
evolution. "The most unduly significant technological advancements appear to be those that directly
alter our ways of communication," says social scientist Bagdikian. One simply needs to look at the
psychological and sociological changes that inventions like the radio, television, VCRs and the
Internet have wrought. We are a telecommunications culture in many respects.
Most people access the internet for information, and news and to have a fast and inexpensive
platform to communicate with family, friends, and people who have similar interests. Looking at
the internet from the perspective of access to free communication has been truly ground breaking
and remarkable. The internet has essentially reformulated how we communicate within our daily
lives on all organizational levels. Although the mediums of communication are free and fast, it is
moderately weaning us from our dependency on conventional forms of communication, to regulate
ourselves within in person meetings?
Successful business saves on cost by hiring far off staff and long-distance contractors.
Smartphones, laptop and tablets allow workers to telecommunicate with clients from their own
homes, without having to be there in person. This eradicates the need for business location and

company phone lines. “I save a thousand dollars or more in tariff each month by using remote
mobile applications like GoToMeeting.com to handle conference calls and meetings," says Ryan
Bradley of Web Design Studios. The Internet is highly advantageous to small businesses and
paramount companies in that it saves millions of pounds and dollars on travel, coaching, business
meetings and conventions by administering them online. For instance if deal arrangements are being
made across the globe one would now automatically schedule a zoom or webcam meeting allowing
all parties of the deal to attend.
A communication platform that has helped business financially is undoubtedly the live chat
function. “Many businesses use live chat to expand customer service while saving money. Rather
than calling, emailing, or visiting a company in person, an interested customer or prospect can type
a question or request and instantly connect to a business representative”. 42% of all customers
prefer chat over other communication channels” says Anna Taylor leading provider of customer
engagement solutions, including virtual receptionist and live chat services, for growing businesses.
The use of a human agent that is ready to take part in conversations and ready to help with
customers’ requests 24 hours a day and for the majority of companies it tends to pay itself.
Although these forms of communication have been available to us prior to the last couple of
years, they have been monumental to sustaining work and study life during the covid-19 pandemic.
Schools, businesses, and workplaces were forced to close as a result of the global lockdown, and
millions of individuals were instructed to stay at home for extended periods of time. To prevent the
illness from spreading, public health officials advised limiting social interaction. This changed the
way we worked, learned and connected with each other. There was a way which was already a
habitual occurrence to stay in touch with each other and that was technology.
