Addressing healthcare inequality in my society
Disparities and inequities in healthcare have been documented for years. Equity is all
about justice and fairness that implies that everyone should have equal opportunity to access
all the facilities of healthcare system. It indicates the equal distribution of shares in health.
However, maintaining equality is challenging to some extent as several factors contribute to
unfair delivery of care which leads to differences in the outcome as well. The healthcare
system in my society has termed health equality as a core strategy of healthcare (Christiansen
et al., 2018). The system generally varies as per the local challenges they face and the
infrastructures they inhibit. In our health system, a leader-driven priority has been set to put
the strategy of equity into practice. It helps in improving the state of equity and increase the
workforce diversity. The plan is also focussed on hiring and on community engagement in
this regard to achieve greater inequity in patient care that exhibits better health outcome. The
health system is also aimed to address specific social determinants that affect health of people
and responsible for the occurrence of inequality in care (Moscelli, Siciliani, Gutacker &
Cookson, 2018). The health system of my society at first finds the disparities exist in this
community and then learn about their needs to come up with concrete actions that effectively
close the gap. In this regard, several policies and regulations are followed that restricts
healthcare system to provide equal care irrespective of the gender, race, ethnicity, and
community to the patients as well as according to their individual needs.
Literature evidence to compare and contrast
Disparities in healthcare have been noted since the beginning of the federal
documentation of healthcare. Many programmes are there that addressed minority issues and
