CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
TITLE: To access the factors for managing the green projects in the construction industry
of UK: Based on the comparative analysis of ISG and Kier.
1.1 Background
Project Manager plays a crucial role in a project’s success. To manage any project
successfully, it is required to manage project effectively with efforts, green projects have become
the most essential part of the sustainability development. Despite several studies,
The purpose of present study is to determine importance of green projects in construction
company (Guo and et.al., 2014). Energy demand in the building sector is expected to grow faster
parallel with the economic and population growth. Construction management and technology
are key factors for construction projects.
In terms of global concern over climate and sustainability, people are more concerned
about green construction in order to protect environmental growth. It also helps to bring new
challenges and growth for company purposes.
For this present research, ISG and Kier will be taken into action. It is a leading global
technology, research and advisory firm. This is UK’s biggest construction group that is
established under the growth. In terms of making green projects, study has been helped to
provide importance of green projects factor for better sustainability growth that helps to maintain
better economic growth in the UK environment. On the other hand, managers are facing
challenges and issues to manage green constructions projects.
Sustainability in building is the most concerning matter of fact in order to reduce the
global warming and increasing percentage of pollution It gives better and challenging in order to
make the best approachable target goals (Harrison and Lock, 2017). Due to high chemical
technologies', population brings double-quick forward results and accelerated making growth.
Overall, it brings long lasting effects.
The aim of this study is to focus on proper project managing factors planning in terms of
green projects while preparing long effectiveness. Along with that, it makes the best effective
processes and target market goals. Overall, it takes long term process and challenging growth,
which involves some hurdles while maintaining the project managing factors. Study also focuses
1

on the project planning for construction companies. To enhance the importance of maintains
proper environment growth and ensuring less using pollutant sources.
1.2 Rationale
On the basis of past research and study, it has been seen that construction industry has
faced many challenges related to environment from past few years. Effective environment
sustainability is highly needed in present scenario in order to fulfill the long term goals. (He and
et.al., 2015). Present study has been focusing on project management that impacts on
organizational goals and targeted market plans. There is a huge need of green project managing
factors in the project management in order to ensure green management plan. Overall, it brings
extended term challenges that help to prefer long lasting efforts and growth. Green project is the
environmental challenge. Besides, it brings new challenges and growth in order to make the best
approachable target goals.
The purpose of the study is to define importance of green planning in order to sustain
long lasting efforts and goals. In order to take new steps and fast forwards results and growth.
Company should make proper and implemented content and target goals in order to make the
best approachable target market challenging matter of fact for reducing pollutant chemical
resources for building (Hughes, Champion and Murdoch, 2015). Disregarding the environment
can lead to project failure. This study helps to enhance importance of green projects managing
factors in the construction industry. Construction projects or companies are generally depended
on climatic and geographical conditions. Study helps to define the importance of need for green
and safe environment. Impact of green culture on an environment is to maintain the healthy
environment in entire project procedure and the company should has adopted the main goals of
2

the project managing factors is that to make green project without using any harmful factors.
This makes proper and effective learning methods that brings new services and growth.
Project succeed factors in the construction project is very necessary that helps to define
all employees or workers exact working in all over project period (Kaiser, El Arbi and
Ahlemann, 2015). Moreover, it takes the best approachable process that helps to bring new major
challenges. To understand the role of project planning in green projects, sustainable building
management should be investigated to find how the project manager can influence on linking
sustainability to the building process.
Research also determines challenges that are faced by the project manager to make a
proper solution (Mok, Shen and Yang, 2015). Study scope define the overall standing of green
task and value of project managing factors in order to ensure future sustainability growth. This
process also helps to take care of the environment surroundings and long lasting sustainability
3

growth. It will be more likely to have long ter effects and long lasting process. This helps to take
extended term process and more challenging growth. This helps to take long lasting and the best
effective challenging process. Different sources and more reliable and take effective process
making task.
This study has been provided the best sources able and makes the long term process
(Yang, Zou and Wang, 2016). It also gives good impact on the matter of fact that helps to make
the better fast growing performance. Present study has been introduced long term process and
takes the best approachable fast forward results. Project manager should make changes according
to protect from the bad effective low.
1.3 Aim
To access factors for managing green projects in construction industry of UK: Based on the
comparative study of ISG and Kier
1.4 Objectives
To identify role of different managing factors that affect green projects in construction
industry.
To ascertain the challenges that project managers encounter in managing green
construction project managing factors
To determine critical areas skills that can respond to those challenges.
To analyze importance of project planning for green project for maintaining sustainability
environment.
1.5 Method of analysis
Research Approaches: Research approach is the important term that helps to define
proper outcomes and results. There are two types of research approach such as inductive and
Inductive approach. Inductive approach does not based on formulation of hypothesis. They
focused on research aim and objectives (Guo and et.al., 2014). Besides, deductive approach is
based on hypothesis. Present study has been selected positivism approach which is based on
specific and general.
Research Strategies: it is the most crucial element of research methodologies that helps
to adopt suitable techniques. Present study has been determined the importance of project
planning in green projects in construction sector. For that, there has been present two types of
4

strategies quantitative and qualitative. With the help of qualitative strategy, researcher can easily
collect data through secondary data collection data. Examples, use of internet, books and
journals.
Research Design: it is another matter of growth and challenging growth. Research
design helps to define two types such as exploratory and conclusive (Harrison and Lock, 2017).
It makes proper and effective process making changes. Exploratory research is based on general
content rather on conclusive design that will be based on specific research tools. Present study is
based on conclusive research design.
Data collection: it is the crucial element of research methodology under which two types
of data collection techniques have been presented. They are primary and secondary. Present
research will select secondary data collection technique (Hughes, Champion and Murdoch,
2015). Through research collects data through books, internet, journals etc.
Ethical Consideration: it is the most concerning and required element for accomplishing
research goals and objectives. Under which, a researcher is required ethical consideration is the
more effective and productive element to control the uncontrollable factor goals which keeps the
process and more challenging and effective. Ethical consideration is the tool that helps to control
the risk factor from the projects in more effective manner.
