IntroductionNetworking in computing is the act of interconnecting various computing devices for the purposeof sharing resources such as data, printers, servers among others[ CITATION Bra171 \l 1033 ].Computer networks come with various designs depending on the organization in which thenetwork is to be implemented. This report therefore, provides a proposal of a networking designthat should be adapted both using dedicated server and cloud hosting techniques for iTechorganization.Aim and ObjectiveThis project is aimed at achieving various objectives in helping the company conduct its servicesmore efficiently and effectively[ CITATION Col12 \l 1033 ].The operational and businessobjectives to be achieved using this network design are:Scalability– The new network design should accommodate addition of more network equipmentif need be, without having to redo the whole network installation. This means that in the eventwhere iTech wishes to add more workstations to its network, the space will be available and theprocess made easy.Easy troubleshooting and management– The iTech network design should be easy totroubleshoot in case of any problems and also it should enable the organization to be able tomanage the network more effectively.Secured iTech services– This network should enhance a more secure environment for theoperations of iTech administrative functionalities in rendering services to its clients and betweenits adjacent offices between the three buildings adjacent to each other.Effective information processing– The network design is aimed at ensuring that users are ableto retrieve. Process and store information related to iTech operational services more effectivelyand in a transparent manner.This report provides a thorough analysis of the IT infrastructure components required, three-layered hierarchical network model, dedicated server network design, cloud based networkdesign and DCB network simulation of the proposed network design for iTech Company. Thereport also provides various recommendations to ITech Company on the proposed design andfinally the conclusion of the whole report.Background of iTech CompanyiTech is a software development company located between three adjacent five-story buildings inan office park. It has 900-computer network with each building having about 300 computers. Thethree buildings of ITech Company have similar LAN. It also has a Data Center Buildng (DCB)which is located on one of the iTech buildings and the data center is located on its second floor.This data center provides emailing and web services as well as dynamic IP addresses, file sharingand DNS services to iTech employees. This organization’s domain name is www.iTech.org.au.The current network design is poor and does not meet the needs of the company effectivelyhence need for replacement.
IT Infrastructure ComponentsThere are various components of IT infrastructure that facilitates the design of a good networkdesign for different organizations. In the case of iTech Company, the following are componentsof IT infrastructure that will be needed for designing the new network.Computer Hardware ComponentsThese are more important IT infrastructure of network designs. They consist of various hardwarecomponents such as:a)SwitchesThis is a hardware device that connects various computer devices within a single local areanetwork[ CITATION Bra171 \l 1033 ]. There are various types of networking switches that can beused by iTech Company but based on the scalability factor modular switches are more preferredin this project. Modular switches enhance flexibility during configuration. These switches comewith different size chassis which allows for the installations of various numbers of modular linecards. This means that the number of ports on such switch can be increased in case of anyaddition of networking device hence facilitating scalability. The switch is as shown below.b)RouterThe routers are devices that will connect the network to the internet. The router will provideembedded device encryption acceleration, slots for digital signal processing (DSP) slots, firewall,prevent intrusion, processing call, application services and voice calls.c)Wireless Access Point (WAP)This is a networking device that creates wireless LAN referred to WLAN. This device broadcastWi-Fi signal within the buildings thus allowing more end user devices to be connected to thenetwork.d)Fiber cable
This serves as a transmission media that connects various networking devices to the network.Fiber cable will be used to connect network backbones from the core layer to distribution layerand finally to the access layer of the iTech network design.e)Server/Storage ComponentsThese are components that manage access to shared resources and services in a network.Thisinclude the mail server, DNS server, DHCP server, Web server, file server, Database server andprint server.f)Cat 6 Ethernet cableThis shall provide connection of data access to network wireless access points devices due to itshigher speed.g)Cat 5 Ethernet cableThis cable shall provide connection of access layer devices to the iTech network (LAN).h)Workstations devicesThis includes employee’s computers as well as office IP phones that will be connected to thenetwork of iTech Company.Operating System ComponentsThese include workstations operating systems, operating system to be used by servers in thenetwork and Network Operating System (NOS) which manages computer network resourcesshared across the iTech Networking Platform.All these IT Infrastructure components are very essential in enhancing quality network design foriTech Company in order to achieve the set objectives and bring a new networking look to theentire organization. The network to be designed will therefore rely on these components in orderto be successful[ CITATION Mba12 \l 1033 ].
Three-Layer Hierarchical ModelIntroductionThis is a networking design where the network is broken down into three layers. Each layer inthis model performs specific functions which lead to simplifying of the network design thusmaking it easy to scale and manage the network[ CITATION CIS14 \l 1033 ].The three layers of thismodel are;Access layer – This layer provides direct end user connection to the network.Distribution layer – This layer connects access layer components and also enables connectivityof access layer to servicesCore layers – This layer connects distribution layers to large LAN in the organization.The three layers can be represented diagrammatically as seen below.Therefore, the proposed network design for iTech Company should adapt this model consideringthat the organization is big having being located on the three adjacent buildings that host about300 workstations and a Data Center on one of the building. Isolating this network into layers willmake it easy for iTech Company to manage the whole network as well as enhance scalability infuture.Analysis of the current and future iTech IT Infrastructure requirements
