1TOURISM BUSINESS STRATEGYExecutive SummaryIn this report the Travel and Tourism Competitive Report published by the World EconomicForum is studied. The 14 pillars of the report are used to compare the competitive factors in thetourism sector of Spain and Italy. Research from secondary sources like newspapers, books,journals and government sites have helped to collect data and obtain information to identify thetop three strategic priorities of Spain. It is recommended that the Spanish government shouldupgrade its ground transportation system, should improve its international openness to boosttourism. Also, it can be recommended that the Spanish government should undertake steps tocombat terror threats and should adopt a model of sustainable tourism by protecting itsenvironment from the saturation of tourists in the country.

3TOURISM BUSINESS STRATEGYIntroductionAs a tourism consultant commissioned by the Spanish Government’s Minister of tourism,this report is prepared by me to study the competitiveness of the tourism industry in Spain and tohighlight areas in the tourism sector that require improvement. This report will enable theSpanish Government Ministers of Tourism to understand the areas where the government isdoing excellent to boost tourism. However, there are certain areas in the travel and tourismsectors in Spain that requires improvement. The analysis of the present strategies undertaken bythe Spanish government to boost tourism and recommendations of strategies for future willfacilitate the Spanish government to allocate resources judiciously in the tourism sector in thenext decade. Spain secured the top rank in the global Travel and Tourism Competitive Index.The natural and cultural resources of Spain, the excellent infrastructure and connectivity by airtransport are some of the factors that enabled the country to secure the first position in the Traveland Tourism Competitive Index published by the World Economic Forum. Italy secured 8thposition in the Travel and Tourism Competitive Index[ CITATION Wef17 \l 1033 ].The tourismsector in Italy witnessed a substantial growth of international tourists. The international arrivalsin Italy surpassed 50 million in the year 2015. In this report, Spain is compared with Italy tounderstand the competiveness of the travel and tourism sector in Spain. The report also providesinsights about national policies of the Spanish government to boost tourism and the internal andexternal threats faced by the Spanish tourism sector. Research Methodology Secondary research is used to prepare this report. The sources that already exist like theTravel and Tourism Competitive Index of 2017 published by the World Economic Forum has
