2.2 Comparing features of a tourist destination in a developing country and leading tourist
destinations.
There are many differences in tourist destinations of India and United Kingdom.
Comparison of tourist destinations of India and UK
Tourist destination of UK is more developed than India because Government of UK spends
more on its tourist places money as comparison of India. Due to these reason, global position of
United Kingdom is also effective as compare to India. In addition to this, government of UK
provide better facilities to its visitors in the nation (James, 2000). For example they also offers
better internet, communication, and effective food services to its tourists in the nation. On the other
side, Indian government are unable to provides these facilities in appropriate manner which create
complexities for visitors to visit many tourist destinations of India. In addition to this, there are
many tourism areas which are not properly developed due to higher corruption level in tourism
authorities which create reduces frequency of visitors as compare to UK (Kimmm, 2012). Due to
this cause, tourism authorities of nation do not invest more money as comparison of Britain. In
addition to this, Government of United Kingdom also provide proper hospitality services to visitors
because they help the hotel and resorts to establish their business by giving them loans in lower
interest rates. Due to this reason, Maximum, tourism destinations of Britain are developed in
appropriate as comparison of India. On the other side, Indian government do not provide more help

to hotels and associated business due to lack monetary funds and economic instability which
produces complexities for visitors to visit tourist places in the nation.
Further, Government of UK provide effective security to national and international visitors
at all tourist destinations which also attract many them to visit them. On the other side, security
agencies of India do not give more safety against terrorist attacks as comparison of United Kingdom
(Mehmetoglu and Norman, 2013). For example, In 2008, many global and Indian tourists were
killed in the Mumbai attacks. These type attacks create fear in the mind of travellers to visit India.
In addition to this, government of Britain offers better transportation services like buses, trains as
well as flights to all tourists for reaching tourism destinations in a better way. This facility also lures
many visitors to visit various type of tourist locations in the nation. On the other side, Indian
government do not develop all tourist places in a appropriate manner which generate less revenues
and profit as comparison of United Kingdom (Ransley and Ingram, 2004). This thing also decrease
the numbers of tourists as compare to Indian tourist destinations.
Features of Malaysia

TASK 3
3.1 Comparison between the appeal of leading tourist destinations with developing destinations
Tourist appeal refers to the physical or cultural factors of a specific place which make
tourists to meet their one or more leisure related needs. Tourism of both developing and developed
countries are affected by their characteristic and appeals. Travellers are attracted towards them due
to their cultural appeal, accessibility to the destination, its beauty and features.
UK Tourism:
Tourism of UK is world's one of the most popular destination as it is at number 8 in top ten
destinations. The heritage, museums, natural beauty, culture and beaches are most attractive part of
tourism destinations. The world famous Natural History Museum of London, Warwick Castle of
England, Lack District National Park, Three Graces of Liverpool, etc attracts people of various
countries towards it. Along with it, the services offered by the travel and tourism industries of the
UK are also of high quality which helps in satisfying the users (Damonte, Collins and Megehee,
2012). Hotels, food, transport of UK helps individuals in making their travelling comfortable and
memorable. The appeal of UK tourism which makes tourists to visit and enjoy their tour and trips
are Tower of London, Hylands House and Estate, St Paul's Cathedral, Flamingo Land Theme Park,
Lake District and Big Ben. Along with it, other tourist attractions are walking tour at Warner Bros.
Studio, Madame Tussauds museum, the view from the Shard and Shek's Adventure! London. UK
government keep all the tourist destinations clean and hygienic for preventing travellers from any
kind of disease and injury. This tidiness helps in increasing the number of customers to theses
tourist destinations. Along with this, Glastonbury Festival of the UK is also one of the largest open-
air music event which results to invite a large number of people to attend it. In addition to it,
carnival such as Notting hill Carnival also make people to visit UK. Government of UK give
proper emphasis to the facilities, cleanliness, safety, health and security of the travellers. There are
proper tourism policies also for the people visiting the destinations which make them feel safe and
secure while visiting the (Dwyer and Forsyth, 2007).
Indian Tourism:
With respect to the tourism of UK, Indian tourism is not much developed and properly
maintained. There are various beautiful and attractive destinations in India such as Taj Mahal of
Agra, Hall of thousand pillars at Meenakshi Temple, Vamana Temple at Khajuraho, Kailasa Temple
at Elora, Bactrian Camel ride at Nubra Valley, Elephanta Caves of Mumbai, etc but these are not
maintained by the government properly (Getz, Carlsen and Morrison, 2004). There is lack of proper
health and safety of the travellers due to which they face various issues while travelling to India.
Marketing strategy of Indian tourism is also not as effective as UK and due to this, people of
Document Page
different countries are unaware about the beautiful and attractive destinations of the India. Toursit
attraction of the India are various forts and monuments of jaipur, jodhpur and udaipur such as Hawa
Mahal, Jaigarh Fort, Jal Mahal, Jantar Mantar, etc of Jaipur, Mehran Garh of Jodhpur and City
Palace of Udaipur. Along with it, beaches of the Goa attracts people to enjoy its slendid climate, the
natural beauty of Heaven on Earth Kashmir makes tourists to enjoy The Lesser Himalayas, Jhelum
Valley, The Indus Valley and many other places. Kerela is one of the most popular and common
tourist destination of India which attracts tourists due to its beautiful backwaters, healing massages,
tourism initiatives, etc. Government of India needs to give more emphasis to its tourist destinations
for inviting more people and for developing itself. They need to make strict policies regarding the
maintenance and management of destinations such as and many other destinations (Evans,
Stonehouse and Campbell, 2012).
3.2 Characteristics of a tourist destination affect its appeal
There are various characteristic which affects the appeal of tourist destinations of UK. UK
uses various innovative and creative marketing strategies for promoting its travel and tourism
industries and destinations (Hall and Page, 2006). This leads to invite travellers from the different
countries which develops the nation's economy.
Economic Characteristic:
It is positive factor of the UK tourism as it is developed nation and invests lots of money to
improve and promote it worldwide. UK government uses tourism destination as main source of
income and due to this, they give more emphasis to them. Marketing strategies include advertising
and promotion with the help of television, radio, internet, word of mouth, social media, website, etc.
All these means remove the distance between the UK destinations and individuals. Effective
strategies increases sales and number of person which directly rise develop the national economy.
Indian tourism can also use this factor for promoting its travel and tourism sector. Whereas it is the
negative factor the developing countries like India as it is not much economically strong that it cvan
invest lots of money on its tourism destinations. It can grow and develop its economy by inviting
people from different countries (James, 2000.).
Physical Characteristic:
It is again a plus point for the developed countries like UK to make attractive their tourist
destinations physically attractive by providing quality services to the tourists. There should be
proper contact of the accommodations, transport, provisions, tour machinist and endorsement with
the travellers for making their trip comfortable and memorable. Effective and proper services such
as proper infrastructure, clean water, healthy food, sanitation, etc should be available for the
customers so that they can easily access them without facing any issue. UK is a developed country
Document Page
and due to this, it has provided all the facilities to the travellers but India is developing country and
due to this, it need to improve its services regarding the sanitation and clean water for making
journey of travellers easy and comfortable. On the other hand, for making tourism attractive, UK
negatively impact soil, animal life, minerals and fossils, geological properties and many more. In
India there is lack of proper contact between the travellers and tour machinist, tour operators, hotels,
etc which causes problem in searching hotels, restaurants, transport. These factor dissatisfy people
and this affects the image of India at global level. Some of the tourist destinations of the India such
as Udaipur, Jaipur, Goa, Kerela are physically attractive which provides attractive and high quality
services to the people visiting these places. But India needs to make all of its tourist destinations
attractive regarding accommodations, food, sanitation and many more.
Social Characteristic:
Social Characteristic such as population, quality of life, poverty, role of women and
children, life expectancy, etc also affects the appeal of tourist destinations. Lifestyle of UK is
attractive which attracts people towards the culture and social life of the UK. People likes to follow
their lifestyle for becoming fashionable, trendy and attractive. Along with this, poverty level of UK
is also very low which shows that its citizens are satisfied and able to fulfil their basic needs. All
these factors make tourists to stay their and visit all the places properly. There are some negative
aspects also such as the social life of the people, increasing divorce cases, etc which distracts
visitors to visit UK. In contrast to it, poverty level of India is very high due to the high population
which somewhere affects the mentality and perception of the tourist. People are unable to fulfil their
basic needs and due to this they are suffering from various kind of disease and disorders. All these
factors affect the tourism destination of the India (Kimmm, 2012). Whereas the social life of India
influence people to know about it more such as Joint Family concept, different types of customs,
festivals, different dressing styles, ways of greeting others, etc. These factor plays positive role in
influencing and attracting tourists towards the tourism of India.
TASK 4
P 4.1 Issues that affect the popularity of tourist destinations
As Ecotourism Consultant of eco-travel department of world wide tourist destination, it if
found that there are various issues which affects the popularity of the tourist destinations which are
as follows.
Climate: Climate affects the number of tourist in the countries. People like to visit in

activities such as during the sunshine people like to swim more, at the time to rain tourist
like to stay in hotels rather than moving outside. For example, tourist does not like to visit
UK at the time of extreme wet winter (UK weather, 2016).On the other hand, In India

Global Warming: There are some positive effect of the it on the tourism such as longer
beach seasons but it has more negative impact as compare to the positive. It leads to rise the
sea level, deforestations and harm to the biodiversity, melting of snow, etc. All these factors
affect the number of tourist. For example, people does not like to visit St Helier Harbour of
UK due to its extreme heat (Top 10: Britain's Warmest Places, 2016). In India visitors like
to visit beaches of the Goa due to global warming but it has negative impact on other
tourism destinations regarding the forts and monuments, etc.
Natural Disasters: It also affects the popularity of the tourist destinations. Due to the natural
disasters such as earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunami, hurricanes, etc make people to avoid such
destinations. For example, floods at Great Britain and Ireland in 2015-16 make tourists to
change their tourist destination during that period of time which affects the popularity of UK
tourist destinations. Similarly, Earthquake in Gujarat destroyed many tourist destinations
which took time to recover.
Sustainability: Both UK and India is following sustainability for keeping the tourism safe
and clean for the visitors. Both the government are focusing on the sustainable tourism
policy for increasing number of visitors and popularity. Now a days individuals are
becoming more health and environment concious and due to this, they like to visit clean and
hygienic places only. By keeping this in mind, UK government is giving emphasis to the
sustainable tourism for keeping the environment safe and clean. It is also taking care of
health and safety of the travellers for preventing them from any kind of disease, injury or
harm. For this, hotels, transportation, tourist destinations, travel and tourist industries are
providing quality services to the tourist (Sustainable Development of Tourism, 2016).
Religious Fundamentalism: This factor also affects the popularity of the tourist destinations
such as India is a religious country which influence people to visit it and to know more
about the religions of this nation. On the other hand, UK is not much religious as compare to
the India. So in this matter popularity of the Indian tourism is more as compare to the UK
tourism.
Link with Sports: UK used to organize various sports such as Olympics which results to
enhance its popularity. Similarly, in recent years India also started conducting sports such as
Common wealth games which helped it in increasing the number of tourists. Organising

various games at the global level also helps to enhance the image of countries at
international level.
