INTRODUCTION
Tourism is considered as one of the fastest growing sector in every part of the world and
there is major contribution of tourism in increasing the revenue of countries by growing the
popularity of destinations (Usakli and Baloglu, 2011). It is analysed that the scope of tourism has
been increased in past recent year with the several factors like high disposable income, changes
in life style and rise in number of young population in countries providing the growth to the
industry. In present context, main tourists' destination named Drayton Manor Theme Park
situated in leading tourist destination called as Birmingham which is largest and most popular
city outside London. For making comparison, analysis of Toronto is also done which is a forgein
tourist destinations situated in Canda which is located within the Golden Horseshoe in Southern
Ontario on the northern shore of Lake Ontario. Famous place of Toronto like Centreville Theme
Park, CN tower, Lake Ontario are also compared with places in Birmingham in terms of number
of tourist arrivals. Present analysis of destination is based on physical, cultural and economic
characteristics in order to evaluate the potential opportunities of UK destinations as tourist
destinations. Various in tourist destinations has been analysed with determination of some
important statistics. Further, comparison of designated tourist destinations with other tourist
destinations has also been taken into consideration in order to determine their features. Some
important aspects related with sustaining tourist destinations in UK have also been discussed in
this report.
TASK 1
1.1 Significant tourist destination and generators across the world
Tourist receiver country can be defined as the nation which is being selected by people to
visit. UK is considered as major tourist receiver and also a generator country in the world (Dey
and Sarma, 2010). In terms of receiving, it stands at 6th position in 2015, 30 million people have
reached with different purpose but as compared to other countries like Toronto in Canada, the
growth of incoming tourist is negative in UK. Toronto is also considered as world's largest and
luxurious forgein destination which has high growth in terms of travel and tourism as compared
to Birmingham.

As per the data and statistics, it can be said that rank of UK in tourist receiver countries
have been decreased. Further, the tourist destinations in Birmingham like Drayton Manor
Theme Park has provided major growth to tourism as they are centre of attraction for the visitors.
Country is famous for its attraction of various tourist spots and London contains the highest
number of tourist destination and also known as the engaged city in the world (Xiang and Pan,
2011). The total income which is generated from tourism by Birmingham is $30.4 billion which
is much lower than compared to Toronto. There are some importance places in Birmingham that
has been considered as centre of attraction for the Tourist. Further, Toronoto has also emreged as
most attractive foreign tourist destination for the people of UK and other Asian countries a there
are no restrictions regarding visas and environment of places is also considered as very
attractive.
In comparison, with Drayton Manor Theme Park resort, the main destination is
recognised as Centraville theme park which is situated in Toronto city of Canada. It also majors
recognition between people in different parts of world and also contains types rides, shows and
themes activities. It was started on 17 July 1955. This also has the largest cumulative attendance
of visitors than any other theme park in the world like, with over 650 million visitors since it
opened.

1.2 Statistics to determine the trends in tourist destinations.
Tourism industry within the countries have the highest approach to achieve the growth at
global level. There is continuous in tourism in the world at increasing rate as the visitors are
willing to spend the large amount of money on getting an experience and enjoyment of living in
other countries (Pang and et.al., 2011). Number of tourists in from other who are visiting in
Birmingham, spend their maximum amount of money on hotels, restaurants and enjoying at
tourist destination like Drayton Manor Theme Park, visiting cultural monuments etc. Apart from
this, Statsitics of trends in travel and tourism industry of Toronto also defined that its growth is
rapidly increasing due to rise in popularity of its tourist destination and services provided by
tours operators. It is analysed as a economical and luxurious destination for visitors in terms of
expenditure.
In order to analyse the trends in tourism industry by taking few examples. Analysing the
inbound tourism in country, a graph has been mentioned below to recognise the number of
tourist in the countries within last some months (Latest monthly data, 2017). The trends of
visitors will be based on the purpose to visit like holiday, business and other miscellaneous. By
taking an example of Britain and showing this graph to analyse trends. As compared to Toronto,
there are major growth has been achieved by tourist destinations of Birmingham as they have
attracted more and more tourist.

From the above chart, annual trends of visitor which specifies that number of tourist in
Britain has been increasing every year since the mid-2010 and it can also be predicted that the
number of tourist in the future will also increase with an increasing rate due to continuous
growth and development of tourist destinations in Birmigham. It supports by the fact that
improvement in technology has become cheaper and easier for tourist to visit the UK. In order to
compare a leading tourist destination and developing tourist destination, the best and suitable
example which have been considered as for leading destination is Birmingham, UK and that of
developing tourist destination. Further, tourism industry in Toronto has provided major
contrbution of US$276.3billion towards the GDP of Canada. This is result of continous rise in
their popularity among the Visitors and they have analysed it as foregin tourist destination.

Further, this chart determines that the rate spending of people visit Birmingham has been
increased by spring and bound in the past some years and it is estimated to rise continuously in
the future.
This chart provides an understanding that the number of inbound tourism destination in
British countries like Birmingham has been increased at high rate and all the market factors are
positive towards the growth of tourism in Britain (Jurado and et.al., 2012). These important
trends will provide support to the economy of country and tourism sector in order to make their
focus on the segments which provides more potential and capabilities to achieve the growth.

many more aspects towards it. Some important features have associated with the tourism like
Cultural. Social, Economic and physical etc. Toronto is the leading tourism destination in
Canada, in 2015, Toronto welcomed over 40 million visitors.These important features of
destinations are mentioned above:
Cultural features: As per the analysis, tourism directly provides impact on the culture of
the place. Moreover, most of the overseas tourists are providing there 50% contribution
may be in the few cases bring them with their own culture and belief. Rise in tourism in
Birmingham will also provide impact on culture and influence the visitors to arrive at the
places continuously (Ringer, 2013). People from other country also like to show to the
culture of their own country by wearing such clothes and other things which reflects their
country's history. People living in Toronto will get popular for adopting the culture of
other countries which they have just read about. Toronto which is also known for its
tourists attractions as, always invited tourists from other countries. It has become a
leading cultural centres in the world.
Social features: The social features of the countries can be explained as those feature that
provide an influence on holiday decision of the tourist. It reflects the mentality of
different age groups to Visit the place. For example: Children's like to visit the theme
park for there enjoyments, student will go Birmingham for holiday and doctor will
choose to go Bahamas for medical research, this is mainly depends upon the social
features of tourists destinations. The Tourist destinations' society of Britain has also
considered this point. Further, in 2015 the Toronto region hosted the Pan/Parapan
American Games, a catalyst for major infrastructure developments across the region.

weight to its drive to grow accordingly. Further, physical features of Toronto has also
been emereged as attractive in past several years because it consists of Some famous

et.al., 2015). Further, it can also be considered that the major number people from other countries
would always like visit the country has been considered as developed not the developing because

country. Country can be considered as developed when they will there economy is competent
enough and does not have the any problems. In present context, Birmingham is considered as
major tourist destination which is a developed country and people have considered as more
important to complete it more enough to get out of its and they have been able to succeed in

destination Toronto, Canada. So thus, it can be said that a developed country will definitely

destinations. Thus, can be said that the developing country may be seen after the destinations in
the society, economy and the physical feature of the places is analysed as compared to a

Birmingham and Toronto which are as follows: Currency fluctuations: This is most important factors which affects the popularity of
tourist destinations in the countries as decrease or increase in currency rate of exchange
in country provides major impact on expenditure on the people who are visiting on that
country on purchasing goods and services (Beritelli and Reinhold, 2010). In present
context, tourism industry of UK is influenced by Fluctuation in currency exchange rate
and the people are not willing to buy anything or arrive at places. The major changes in
currency rate will also provide an effect travel charges of people. On contrary to this,
these problems is not faced by Toronto as its economic is stable which has not provided
any impact on currency exchange rates. Thus, more people are likely to visit the Toronto. Climate: There is also major impact of climate condition on the perception of people of
overseas countries to visit the tourist destinations in other countries. Decisions of people
to Visit the places will also base on the season in which they gain more enjoyments. For
example: People more likely to visit Birmingham in summer as there are beautiful
beaches over there which are major attraction for tourists.
Terrorism: It has become major factors of concern for the overseas countries in present
scenario, as there it has provided major impact on the level of perception of people to

people will like to visit those places where there is no such problems and Country that
have no recent record of terrorism. As compared to Canada, countries within UK are

various steps to control such incidents which hampers the popularity of country.
In order to compare a leading tourist destination and developing tourist destination, the best and
suitable example which have been considered as for leading destination is Birmingham, UK and
that of developing tourist destination will be Toronto.
4.2 Sustaining of tourist destinations in appeal.
There are many parties in the countries have taken various essential steps for sustaining
the tourism in UK. It is gaining very much significance as it is raising various potential problems
with the tourism. These major problem that a creating a lot of major problems for the local
people in Birmingham (Chang and Beise-Zee, 2013). Further, these terrorist activities adversely
affects the environment, local community. They are often linked to the process which is not easy
to be controlled. Further, in order to maintain its appeal, the government of UK needs to take
various steps and make collaborations with the other nations in world for reduction of terrorism
activities which is created by some terrorist organisation operating in Islamic countries. Other
than this, for reducing the impact of currency fluctuation on the expenditure of Tourist in
Birmingham, the government and tourism authorities also needs to develop some important
policies through which the people of other will not get any problems and their burden of tax will
get reduced on purchasing something from the countries and expenditure on travelling within the
countries will get reduced. Thus, these are some effective needs to be taken by UK in order to
maintain its court of appeal for its Tourist destinations in UK.

In this report, it has been concluded that there tourism is most important industry for
every developing and developed countries as it provide major contribution towards growth and
responsible for generation of High revenue by providing satisfaction for the Tourist of overseas
nations. Further, famous tourist destinations of Birmingham, UK and Toronto, Canada are
considered which has provided an understanding that the people are likely to visit more in
developed countries as they will found more facilities and attractive features destinations over
there. There are many important issues have also been considered that provides an understanding
about that these factors will provide major impact tourist perceptions of visiting the countries.
Example of Drayton Manor Theme Park and Centreville Theme Park is also taken in to
considerations which are the two most prominent places in Toronto and Birmingham which are
centre of attraction for people having different age groups.
