MAIN BODY
LO3 Understanding the impact of characteristics of destination upon their
appeal to tourists
3.1 Comparison of appeal of current leading tourists destination and currently developing tourists
destination
Current leading tourists destinations are those that are already in the trend and famous for
the purpose of visiting. For example, London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Liverpool etc. are the
current leading tourists destinations of the UK. Whereas, currently developing tourists
destinations are those that are being planned to be developed as the tourist place or those places
that are not developed as much as to provide sufficient satisfaction to the tourists and fulfil all
the demands of the visitors (Davies, 2018). In this order. Currently developing tourists
destinations are less popular than the developed destinations Like, Cost rice.
Comparison of appeal of current leading tourists destinations and current developing
tourists destinations can be evaluated as under:
Number of visitors: All the tourists destinations of the UK like London, England, Paris,
etc. are developed destinations. Therefore, they attracts huge number of tourists towards

them. As per the recent statics, in recent years, number of visitors in UK have increased
to 2.7% i.e. 40 million.
On the other hand, due to developing stage of the Cost rise, number of visors to be attracted
toward it is less as compare to the UK. Total number of visitors arrived at Cost ride was 10
million as per statistic of recent years.
Infrastructural facilities: In the developed tourist destination places like London, all the
tourism infrastructures are effectively maintained (12 Best Places to Visit in the UK,
2019). It help them in maintaining the attraction of visitors and enhancing the popularity
of the destination. Being a developed tourist place, the tourism authority of the country
also invests enough sum as to maintain them as to give positive appeal to the visitors.
Whereas, the developing tourism destinations do not gain enough revenues from tourist due to
lack of popularity . Therefore, due to lack of funds, they can also not invest more amount in
maintaining the infrastructures of its various tourist destinations. In this order, the infrastructural
facilities are less developed in these places comparing to the developed places.
Transportational facilities: For the purpose of providing effective transportational
facilities to all the visitors, the tourism authorities need to invest the funds in the
transportation industry. As UK earns enough revenues from the tourism, it invests a huge
amount in providing transportational facilities to its tourists. It provides all kind of
effective transportational services to the visitors including airline services, railways
services, roadways transportational services like buses, cabs, etc. to all the tourist.
On the other hand, being a developing tourist destination, the Costa Rican can not invest enough
funds in the transportational industry. Due to it, the Cost Rican fails to maintain enough quality
of the transportational services to be provided to the tourists.
Government policies: Government policies of the country for tourism have potential
impact over the tourism industry of it (Chung, Han and Joun, 2015). UK's government
has developed liberal policies for the tourists that visits several tourist places of the
country. It leads in reducing the procedure to be followed before visiting any tourist
places. Further, it also involves providing positive appeal to the tourists.
Whereas, the tourism policy of the government is less liberal in Cost Rice. Due to it the tourists
needs to fulfil a range of requirements before visiting the place. It results in providing negative

appeal to the visitors and reducing the attraction level of the tourist. Therefore, the government
neds to develop quite liberal policies for the visitors.
Quality of services: Quality of services provided to the tourists is a major factor that
affects appeal of tourists. Quality of services can be provided by combining both private
and public services of the country (Cetin and Bilgihan, 2016). For this purpose, the
service providing policies and strategies are needed to be developed in the most effective
way.
In UK, the the tourism industry have developed best strategies for the purpose of providing the
best services to its tourists. On the other hand, the Cost Rice has not involved much private
industry in the service providing process. It reduces the quality of services to be provided to the
visitors.
In this regard, it can be analysed that, there is a lot of difference in the various factors of a
developed tourism destination like UK and a developing tourism destinations like Cost rice.
Further, it also have a huge impact over the appeal of the tourist of destination.

Tourist destinations can be defied as those countries, stated or region that are highly
dependent on the revenues earned from the tourism of the area. These areas advertise themselves
as the best place to be visits by the tourists. The number of tourists to be arrived at a specific
tourist place depends upon numerous characteristics of the place like cultural features, social
features, etc. of the tourist destination.
The major characteristics of the tourists destination that effects the appeal of tourist are as
under:
Sales promotional strategies: The attraction of tourist at a specific place depends upon
the way in which the place has been represented in front of the tourist at the time of
performing the sales promotional activities. Publicity of a particular tourist destination
may have both positive and negative impact in the mind of tourists (Andrades and
Dimanche, 2017). For example, By showing the most popular and beautiful places of
Paris like Eiffel tower, the tourism agency of UK can positively affect the appeal of
tourism.
Services provided to tourists: The quality of services provided to the tourists also
majorly affects the appeal of tourist as if the tousrist will get the best services from the

governing authorities or other local authorities with which the tourist deals, they would
attract towards the culture of the destination and would love to visit there again as well.

the quality of services, the tourism of the country would definitely go on high.

influence the appeal the tourist. For example, The pleasant weather and beautiful views
of the tourist places of the UK helps the country in positively attracting the tourists
towards it and increase the number of visitors in the country as well.
Commercialisation of traditional places: It is the major characteristic that affects the
tourism of a specific area in a negative way. Tradition of any tourist destination is the key
area where all the tourist like to visit. Commercialisation of those area like traditional
resorts, etc. leads in converting the aim of area to gain profits rather than providing
quality of services to the tourists (Boniface, Cooper and Cooper, 2016). In this regard,
this characteristics of the tourists destination negatively affects the appeal of tourist.
Crime rate of the area: Rate of crime of a particular tourist destination is also one of the
major characteristics affecting the tourists. The high rate of crime rate of any area may
lead in providing negative image of any destination to the tourist. On the other hand, a
safe place can attract the tourist at the most. For example, UK is one of the safest
country in the whole world. In this regard, this characteristic of the country helps in
providing positive image to the tourists and attracting them to visit the places as well. In
this order, this characteristic also have power to provide appeal to the tourists.
Economic condition: Economic condition includes the inflation rate of the area. It has
major impact over the tourism of a specific area (Lee and Bai, 2016). Favourable
economical condition helps in positively effecting the tourism of the country. On the
other hand, higher rate of inflation may result in negatively affecting the appeal of

In this regard, it can be analysed that there are numerous characteristics of the tourists
destination that have potential impact over the appeals of tourist (Tonge, 2015). A country, state
or region needs to have effective management of all the tourist areas as to attract large number of
tourist towards it. Further, it can also be analysed that UK have made effective strategies for
gaining positive appeal of the tourist. For enhancing the number of tourists to be visit in the
country, it should reduce the commercialisation of the traditional places of UK.
