2Selection Criteria- TPP Program
Criteria 1: Demonstrated high level interpersonal, verbal and written communication
skills
Situation:
I was able to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal, verbal and written communication
skills while working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. One situation
where I demonstrated the skills effectively was while educating the youth population as a part
of a Well Being workshop.
Task:
The task involved educating the youth (aged 16 to 25 years) on healthy lifestyle which can
prevent the risks of chronic conditions like Obesity, Diabetes and Hypertension, and to
increase awareness on the adverse health effects of addition (to smoking and alcohol
consumption).
Action:
To do this, I had to educate the youth on the importance of physical exercise, healthy diet,
through educative classes, workshops, educative materials. Lesson plans, presentations and
handouts were designed for education and important contact numbers for help was also
shared in the process (Schmidt & Hunter 2013).
Result:
At the end of the workshop, the participants were able to understand how sedentary lifestyle
and unhealthy diet (as well as smoking and alcoholism) increased risks of Obesity,
Cardiovascular Diseases, Diabetes, Hypertension as well as related diseases, and they were
able to identify healthy diet and lifestyle choices that can reduce the risks.
