INTRODUCTION Personal development is one of the most important thing for every individual, this allow person to become more capable and reliable. Every student who seek employment in future need to have basic skills like communication, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making. These transferable skills hep individual to get desired position in any business organization, apart from these basic skills, an individual must have leadership skills which allow them to manage and lead people. This report will discuss personal development portfolio and will understand importance of transferable skills in career development process. At last this report will provide CV (Woo and et,al., 2019). MAIN BODY Importance of academic and personal skills in business management: Every individual need to have basic employability skills and ability which allow them to reachforemploymentinanybusinessorganization,employabilityskillsare;effective communication skills, critical thinking skills, decision making skills, problem solving skills and most importantly leadership skills. It is very clear that every student will apply for job position any of their desire company, I want to work in multinational company and I want to sharpen my basic skills and ability (Warnock and Mohammadi-Aragh, 2016). Business management is one of the most challenging thing which require effective management of business operation and working, management of business not only mean to manage company but this required critical thinking and ability to make quick decision with high rate of accuracy. Every individual who want to become manager of business organization need to be clear that this job position in most 2
challenging and skills of person will be pushed to the limit. I want to become business manager of multination business firm which means this career pathway is tough and I need to develop both academic and professional skills to meet the requirement of the career pathway. There are certain academic and professional skills which I have and which I need to develop, these skills are: Leadership skills: leadership skills is not common, it can be found rare. This skills require all basic skills such as communication, decision making and problem solving, leadership skills allow person to lead and manage people (Farrell, 2017). I have leadership skills which allow me to become more reliable in my career and employment development process, this skills help me to meet the requirement of desire job which I will be looking to apply. I believe many business organization look for those employee who have leadership skills and have ability to provide effective leadership to the company. I have opportunity to apply for these organizations who look for leadership quality in employee. Communication skills: communication skills is one of the most basic skills which help individual to communicated effectively with others, this skills is most required in an employee. I have effective communication skills which allow me to communicate effectively with others, it is very clear that communication skill is incomplete with active listening skills (Thompson, 2018). This skills help me to actively listen to communicator and allow me to easily decode their message and purpose of the message. Active listening skills is connected with communication skills which means a person can be effective if one of these skills are missing from their career and professional process. Team building skills: working in a team can be most challenging task for many people because a team is build on value and importance of every individual. I believe working in team can be challenging but most challenging is building an effective team, I have ability to build an effective team in the workplace and with my leadership skill, I can manage and lead my team towards success (Marasi, 2019). I have ability to work in team because I can work with people who have diverse culture, I always stay excited to work with people from diverse culture and background. I have team building skills but I need to develop team management skills as well because without effective management of team, it is not possible to meet the outcome. Problem solving: problem solving skills allow person to solve any problem faced by business organization, in today’s world, this is most required skill which allow business manager 3
and leader to provide effective solution to business in times of tough situation (Carpenter and Moser, 2020). I need to develop problem solving skills to sharpen my academic and professional skills, I do not have this skill which means I can not provide effective solution to business in tough situation. This is my biggest weakness as many business organization demand problem solving skills in their manager, although I have leadership quality which will help to develop this skill as well. Emotional intelligence: emotional intelligence is one of the most important skills required in career development, this skill allow person to use their emotional intelligence to manage and lead people in the workplace (Serrat, 2017). I do not have emotional intelligence skills which I need to develop, this skill will help me to become more flexible in the workplace and learn different culture. Using this skills help person to easily understand the area of problem in the workplace, while using personal emotion in positive way, a person can drive effective solution.
