This paper discusses transformational leadership theory and how it can be applied in professional practice as a counselor in drug and alcohol service. It covers the elements of transformational leadership and how they can help counselors become outstanding leaders. The paper also discusses moral leadership and how it can be applied in drug and alcohol service administration.

Introduction
Transformational leadership theory is a form of approach to leadership that can motivate
individuals to become productive in their profession. This theory states that leaders participate in
assisting all followers to achieve success and objectives in their respective professions.
Transformational leadership motivates members to adjust assumptions, discernment and inspire
them to work on a common objective through their dream and personality. In my professional
practice as a counselor working in the drug and alcohol service, I require the theory to help me in
my professionalism. This paper discusses transformational leadership and how I can put my
profession in practice (Collinson, 2005).
As a counselor, I require the elements of the theory to help me solve any problem in my
profession. A leader motivates members to try different methods of performing tasks and learn
new opportunities. Transformational leaders encourage members to be creative and challenge the
status quo. Transformational leaders keep lines of communication open so that members have the
freedom to share ideas and that leaders can give credit to individuals with outstanding
performances, by doing this they promote supportive relationships (Deloitte, 2017). I require this
element in enhancing my counseling skills so that I can give moral support to all my clients. This
is because transformational leadership requires giving support and motivation to individual
members.
Transformational leaders have the ability to assist members achieve their objectives.
These leaders own a clear vision that they are able to express to members. As a counselor, I need

this element theory to help me make the members achieve all their objectives (Ludlow, 2014). In
transformational leadership members have confidence in their leader hence copy the leader's
ideas thus as their counselor I should act as an example to them.
As the theory states, transformational leaders motivate members to attain outstanding
results and develop leadership skills. They react to their member's needs by enabling them to
associate their goals with the entire company and this helps them grow into better leaders. These
elements enable me to be an outstanding counselor whereby I assist other leaders to grow better.
Transformational leadership is where a leader works with teams to identify changes needed to
create a vision to direct through inspiration together with the members of the group. This will
help the leader within the drug and alcohol service administration in sharing the ideas with the
members since any change will need some consultation from members.
Moral leadership is where leaders aim at serving rather than being served. This leadership
theory is applied in drug and alcohol service administration in that the leaders carry out any task
without expectation of being assisted. Transformational leadership theory can be applied in my
profession in that the members would want all the decisions they make to be final (Karina et al,
2009). The leaders do not allow other people to question their decisions.
Conclusion
To become a transformational leader; One should believe in his/her vision and should
motivate the followers to buy the vision too. A transformational leader should be enthusiastic,
true, encouraging, and confidential all these will assist inspire members to support one's
objectives and those of the group.
