Background
Fresh apples are the most demanding fruits from the ancient times to the modern times.
Previously the dealers of the apples use the cart facility to deliver the apples but due to changes
in time the procedure also changes now they use the cargo method to deliver the apples. The
reason behind choosing this method is that they stored in boxes and then contained in forty foot
cooling container to provide proper ventilation and security to the apples so that they remain
fresh and hygienic to eat (Yasar and et.al., 2019). This method is also cost saving as less cost is
expended for transporting the fresh apples from one place to another through cargo facility. 22
tons of apples are delivered at one time of transportation ad in case of rainy season moisture
temperature are adjusted according to the changes in temperature.
Research aim and objectives
Aim:
The aim behind initiating current is to investigate benefits and challenges associated with
transporting cargo of fresh apples (1000 kg) from Adelaide, SA to Perth, WA.
Objectives:
 To assess the trend of delivering apples in Australia.
 To identify challenges associated with delivering apples in Australia via cargo.
 To present benefits linked with delivering apples through cargo method in Australia.
 To recommend ways for improving deliveries of apple from south to west Australia.
Significance of the study
This study will be beneficial for other countries also who are engaging their business in
transporting the fresh apples from one country to another. Transportation is the cheapest and
easy method to deliver the goods to other country as its is the cost effective method which helps
company to grow their business more and also engage into more production of apples.
Furthermore, this study will be helpful to the companies to engage their business into this sector
as the apples demand are increasing more in upcoming era. By reviewing this research, cargo
facility helps the dealers to reach their products in the market at the timely bases. This study will

be significant to the other dealers also to deal their products through cargo to maintain the
freshness in apples.
Research rationale
The reason for selecting this topic is that the topic is interesting and found the lot of
relevant data relating to that field. Investigation is already done in this topic and found sufficient
facts which can be elaborated and understand in true sense and take it as positive note. As during
the research several facts arises regarding the transportation of goods, as people find that risk
factor is high as goods are transported through sea and if any weather condition had impact on
the goods it destroyed the goods in the ship, but if this is a big factor than transportation through
ship is also an easy method which is cost saving and they can save their time and money through
this process.
Research methodology
In the current study, qualitative approach has been used for analysing the benefits and the
challenges faced by the researcher in relation to the transportation of the cargo of apples. This
approach states the qualitative attributes of the study and is not based on the quantitative facts
and figures. Due to qualitative method is adopted by the researcher, inductive approach for the
research is been followed as it suits best to the qualitative method. This approach reflects the
theories that are generated on the information collected from the data analysis. Particular
observations are made that suggest the generalizations. The data has been collected from the
secondary sources for determining the influences of the challenges on the research issue.
Secondary sources include the collection of data from books, journals and other articles in this
research report.
Finding and discussion
As per Watkins, (2016) states that before transporting apples that are to be properly cared
and safely put in proper room temperature. As at the time of pickling the apples or harvesting the
apples, it consists of proper time planning as apples are harvested at correct room of weather
changes and should be stored at normal room temperature because if apples are kept are high
room temperature it smoother the value of apples which result in decrease in quality of the
apples.
Yasar and et.al., (2019) stated that apples should be handle with proper care and kept in
containers so that they remain fresh in that containers as well. As Adelaide is the capital city of

the state of South Australia and it's the fifth most popular city. While transporting the fresh
apples from Adelaide, SA to Perth through cargo facility the fresh of apples remain as same as
they are contained in huge container and they are highly protected with the security system
which can be easily adjustable according to the temperature.
Referring the study of Johansson, (2015), it can be presented that at the time of
transporting apples there are chances of damage or loss to apples which the cargo workers are
not responsible for that damage as there only work is to deliver the products from one place to
another and if there is any defect in packing the products, the cargo company is not liable to pay
the debts occurred.
Shipping products through cargo is the most cost efficient method as it saves the cost and
also increase the farmer’s interest to grow more apples. It is the time consuming system if they
use other method for transporting the apples, it takes more time to reach the apple to that place
and also the product is of surety that it reach safely Piala, Galierikova and David, (2017). That's
why they feel that transporting through cargo is the best method to deliver the apples to other
country.
According to Behdani, Fan and Bleomhof, (2018) delivering product through cargo
sometimes affect the product through their speed. As to deliver the products before time they
didn't recognise their speed through which products got affected as if there is no spacing in
between the products containers. As while packing the products the containers should be packed
with proper spacing, so that apples get air and freshness remain in that containers.
Conclusion
By summing up this research report, it can be concluded that cargo method of delivering
apple (1000 kg) is good as it contributes in cost saving significantly. Besides this, it can be
inferred that cargo method ensures freshness of apple when it gets delivered from Adelaide, SA
to Perth, WA. It can be summarized from the results that speed or time of delivery cannot be
measured easily in the context of cargo.
