Treatment Strategy Assignment_1
The particular essay is in reference to 43 year old women named Julie Green. She is amarried women and having three children's of age 10, 7 and 4 years. Julie is presently lookingafter the family and is not involved in any employment outside the house. But before starting thefamily she used to work in a company as an administrative assistant. It is also known that Julie is170 cm tall and her weight is 120 kg. On the basis of BMI calculation it is found that Julie isdealing with obesity. She mentioned that her husband is highly cooperative and supportive andalso described that her two eldest children's are also overweight. Julie has also recentlydeveloped the diabetes type 2 and is walking in home with the help of cane as she is also havingjoint pain. It was also found that Julie had tried many dirts pattern but none of them helped her inloosing weight. On the basis of recent interview with Julie it was found that she is suffering from thefeeling of depression due to her extreme weight gain and is not able to do any task. According tothe Schachter-Singer Theory of emotion, an event that happens tends to produce thephysiological arousal first, then the person identify the reason for this arousal and then only thatparticular person is able experience the emotions (Psychology 101 – Motivation and Emotion,2017). In the case of the Julie her weight keep on increasing, at initials she was not concerned aswhen she goes through many complications such as obesity and diabetes then she became awareregarding the problems and then dealing with feeling of depression. It was also found that Julie also had the feeling of anger because her elder son is teasedby people for being overweight. Similarly, this pattern of arousal is also associated with thetheory of Schachter-Singer in which, first event occurs then person is able to experience theemotional change. As per the views of Izard (2013), drive reduction theory states that all humanshave some biological internal needs that forces them to perform things in a certain way.According to hull these internal needs are need to be reduced and control in order to maintaininternal calmness. For example, internal feelings of thirst and hunger that leads and motivate theperson to consume more amount of food that lead to condition of overweight. Similarly, in caseof Julie she needs to control these feeling in order to reduce the impact of obesity. The weight of Julie was already 120 kg before she had any other complications. By thecalculation of BMI it was found that she is highly obsessed and need the immediate control onher lifestyle. As per the views of Arnold (2013), motivation and support highly influence thefeeling of ones and promote them to perform the activities at higher level. From this it can be

inferred that Julie was always supported and motivated by her husband which in turn leads her tocontinue her diet and lifestyle that further complicated her life. The main cause of diabetes type 2in Julie is obesity as having (Body Mass Index) BMI higher than 30 leads to indicates thepresence of diabetes because of being obese. It is known that obesity lead to changes in theprocess of body metabolism. Thus, these changes forces the adipose tissues also known as fattissues to release the molecules of fat in blood that causes the decrease in the insulin sensitivitydue to adverse effect on the insulin responsive cells. As per the views of Brown and Capozza(2016), abdominal fats forces the fats cells to release pro-inflammatory chemicals known ascytokines. This continuous release of cytokines disrupt the functioning of insulin responsive cellsthus decreasing the ability to response to insulin. Thus, this condition of resistance impairs the proper functioning of the insulin to reducethe out of glucose from liver. This is the reason that lead Julie to duffer from the type 2 diabetes.Along with this obesity not only contributed in formation of type 2 diabetes but also resulted inthe increased joint pain in her. Due to heavy upper body weight, extreme pressure felt by kneeand hip joint. This increase in weight can put excessive stress on the joint and causes damage tocartilages that leads to extreme joint pain. It is necessary for Julie to have control on weight as itcan lead to tear and wear in joint and can create the condition in which it becomes necessary toreplace the knees. According to Moors, Ellsworth, Scherer & Frijda (2013), in many instancesfailure in any approach can demotivate the person and this can have bad impact of thephysiological functioning of the body. Similarly, in case of Julie, she tried many diets but noneof them work, this failure further pose negative impact on her physiological conditions as sheadmits that she is dealing with depression. However, as per the views of Przybylski, Murayama,DeHaan & Gladwell (2013), in obese people there is a mood disorder that leads to depression. Inmany person obesity leads to poor self esteem and isolation from the social life that act as themain contributors of depression. According to Elwyn, Dehlendorf, Epstein, Marrin, White &Frosch (2014), on the basis of Maslows need hierarchy first need of humans is physiologicalneeds. This includes needs related to food, water and other vital components of the life. And inthe case of Julie she is not bale to live life happily as her needs of getting healthy is not fulfilled, thus this hinders her to live a normal life. There is an immediate need of a treatment plan in order to improve the normal emotionalfunctioning and increase the motivation in order to encourage her to lose her weight.
