TWO LEADERS AND THEIR SPEECHES
The speech of Mr. Nehru was that of a transformation leader addressing India after she
gained freedom of the British rule. The aim of the speech as to motivate the Indians to unite and
bring about the development of India as a nation in all aspects. Mr. Nehru stressed clearly on the
need to uphold democracy and peace while attaining economic development. He emphasized on
the fact that Indians irrespective of their religions, caste or any other distinct identity should
enjoy the rights entitled to them. An analysis of the speech thus reveals that the leadership of Mr.
Nehru also incorporated features of democratic leadership style. Thus, the speech revealed that
Mr. Nehru was both a democratic and transformative leader (Husain 2016).
Communication style:
The speech of Mr. Banducci compared to the speech of Mr. Nehru largely revealed
participative leadership style. He was not addressing the Constituent Assembly in the Parliament
of India while the speech of Mr Banducci was that of a CEO expressing his views in the financial
statements of the company. Thus, the speech style of Mr. Nehru had an oratory approach while
that speech of Mr. Banducci had a written communication approach (Johansson, Miller and
Hamrin 2014).
Economy Industry Company (EIC) approach vs Company Industry Economy (CIE) approach:
The oration by Mr. Nehru was that of the first Prime Minister of India addressing the
Parliament after the country gained freedom. The Prime Minister’s oration spoke about
economic development, upholding of democracy and peace. He also stressed on the fact that all
citizens of India would be entitled to the fundamental rights irrespective of their caste, creed or
race. Thus, the speech of Mr. Nehru had EIC approach (Goetsch and Davis 2014).

TWO LEADERS AND THEIR SPEECHES
Mr Banducci speech spoke about the future strategies of Woolworths including its
employee culture and customer relationship. Thus, the speech of Mr. Banducci had a CIE
approach which stressed on the strategies of the company (Terek et al. 2015). His speech gave an
account of the future expansion of product portfolio which the management has on the cards but
does not reveal anything about the challenges the company would face. Thus, the speech was
placed very diplomatically about the company to attract future business partners. Thus, the
CEOof Woolworths followed the company, industry economy approach.
Conclusion:
One can conclude the leadership styles leaders follow vary according the context. The
speeches of the leaders reveal their authority, personality and power. The aim of the leadership is
ultimately to lead groups of people towards attaining a common set of goals. For example, the
aim of Mr. Nehru’s speech was to motivate Indians to strive to attain higher level of economic
development. The aim of Mr Banducci was addressing the Woolworths and its stakeholders
while presenting the annual financial reports. The style of leadership also varies according to the
leaders. Mr. Nehru exemplifies democratic and transformational leadership while Mr. Banducci
follows participative leadership style.
