1.0 Introduction
Organic food refers to those products of an agricultural system that reduces pollution, avoid
synthetic fertilizer pesticide application, preserve water and help to reduce soil erosion that
automatically increasing the soil fertility by using less energy. The organic market of the UK is
growing day by day and in this assessment, analytical research about this specific topic would be
given with proper research work and a self-evaluated Essay will be discussed with reflection
work by using proper references. The future of the organic food market in the UK will also be
discussed in this project (Willer, 2020).
1.1 Research on the chosen topic
Organic food in the UK market has become more common, though not all customers are
encouraged to buy organic products it was reported in 2020 that approximately 2.6 Billion
British Pounds got spent on organic food and beverages. The sales of organic products grew
approximately 5.2% in the year 2021(Statista. 2022), which indicates the growth of the organic
food market. According to recent studies, more than 70% of British shoppers prefer organic food
with environmentally friendly packaging and approximately 42% of people in the UK want to
pay more to buy organic foods. According to a "Kitchen Stories" poll released in 2019 (Statista.
2022), the majority of people (34.11% approx) showed interest in buying organic food, but less
than 10% in their daily shopping.
Organic food like fruits, and vegetables are always more expensive than conventional products
because of the strict instructions provided by USDA certification (HAUMANN, Organic in the
United States, 2022) that requires a high standard of a farm, transportation services and facilities
in production. Non-organic or conventional farms can produce more at a time by using
pesticides, and chemicals but fully organic products demand natural sources and a specific period
to grow which is why organic farms tend to grow fewer products for quality reasons and as a
result, organic food becomes highly costly. In the UK organic premium is very high and
according to a consumer report organic food costs around 47% more than the conventional
edition of the same food but people in the UK are health conscious, and the market of the organic
