This essay identifies the key challenges faced by UK SMEs during Covid-19 and examines the role of the government in supporting them. Lack of resources, flexible working, and poor online marketing are some of the internal challenges, while high competition, changing customer behavior, and lockdown restrictions are external challenges. The government has provided various financial support schemes such as Innovative Voucher Initiatives, Recovery Loan Scheme, Start Up Loans Company Scheme, Bounce Back Loan Scheme, and Enterprise Investment Scheme to help SMEs recover from the pandemic.
