Provisional Title of Research Proposal
Research proposal to investigate how employee motivation effect organisational
performance: A case study of selected organisations operating in Australian region.
Aim of research
This research proposal aims at making further study on employee’s motivational factors to
unravel their effects on organisational performance. This research will benefit existing
organisation’s by finding reasons for effective and efficient workforce productivity.
Objectives of research
The primary objective is to determine the motivational level that effects job
performance of employees thereby resulting in enhanced organisational performance.
This research will examine under what extent does non-financial and financial
incentives effects employee’s motivation, job security, advancement, recognition and
decisional participation to raise their morale for higher productivity.
The second objective is to establish whether employee motivation has any influence
over work productivity at few selected organisations in Australian region. This
investigation will identify quality of motivational systems undertaken by present
organisations to evaluate how motivated employees increase organisational
productivity.
Third objective of the research is to identify the dominant motivational reasons which
influences employee’s performance. For the same, this paper will find out relationship
between organisational performance and employee motivational factors in
contemporary organisations.
Rationale for study
Several organisations have started adopting ways through which they can pay increased
attention for developing human resources and thus this topic seems to create much interest
among present authors and researchers (Osabiya, 2015). Since organisations have started
showing great concern that adds in employee’s stimulation process to enlarge their job skills,
this research proposal is highly relevant with the factors associated with employee
motivations and organisational performances. Many theories of motivation have been

mentioned in literature that explains human behaviour at their workplaces and at different
situations. Process theory in motivational concept describes and analyses how human
behaviour can be energised, sustained, stopped and directed. Four basic process theories
include Goal setting, Reinforcing theory, Expectancy and Equality theory. Furthermore,
Content theory of motivation defining Two factor theory of Fredrick Hertzberg and Maslow’s
Hierarchy of needs are used extensively by authors and investigators while describing basic
human needs and motivational factors (Khan, et al., 2010).
Every organisation is concerned about what shall be done to achieve sustainable growth with
high level performance through human capital. Consequently, the topic of adequate
incentives can be derived from many attempts created by business practitioners to look at the
best ways for managing employees. This further helps in accomplishing business objectives
and mission with available human resources and least inputs (Weldeyohannes, 2015).
However, certain issues regarding inadequate motivational factors arises due to several
consequences concerning individuals work situations along with different outlook,
organisational behaviour and expectations. These issues of employee motivation may be
divided into two major categories, first one being inability of certain employees due to
deficiency in personalities (Muogbo, 2013). For such employees, their want to avoid failure
can become too strong that unintentionally, the reason to produce positively might get
reduced. This can further result in general resistance to work or achieve oriented activities
that must naturally be overcome through extrinsic factors of motivation. Secondly, although
the achieving factors motivates strongly, the challenges related to that may prove inadequate
or difficult for employees due to which employees start manifesting in several ways like
premature surrender or lack of enthusiasm. Despite many apparent issues of organisational
productivity and employee motivation, contemporary organisations undertake necessary
means to ensure continuous productivity that could gear organisations towards goal
accomplishments (Ghaffari, et al., 2017). Therefore, this research is worth exploring further
due to its significance observed for organisations as well as employees. Also, the study made
will provide appropriate reasons behind employee motivation and their effect on
organisational productivity to assist contemporary workplaces in making employee related
decisions.

Research approach or methodology proposed
The approach adopted for this study is to investigate non-economic motivators that are not
generally computable in financial terms but can potentially drive human mind from within to
start behaving in a way that produces maximum realisation of organisational goals (Forson,
2012). To investigate upon how employee motivation effects organisational performance in
Australian companies, this research paper will utilise secondary sources for conducting mixed
methods study.
Data collection-- To gain more knowledge related to employee’s motivational factors
and organisational performance issues, this paper will use online sources, books,
journals, scholarly articles and company reports. These sources will assist in gathering
evidences required for making further investigation upon the topic and theories
related to it.
Interviews – To make detailed investigation and support collected evidences, this
research will conduct online discussions and interviews with human resources
managers of few selected Australian companies. The interactions made will also help
in finding alternative solutions for issues identified along with building flexible
decision making processes that can be implemented in other organisations
(Weldeyohannes, 2015).
Data analysis – To find current situation of Australian companies, the sequences of
information will be combined, including surveys and interactions conducted. This
survey will assist further in getting employees point of view and what motivational
factors effects the most for bringing organisational productiveness.
Qualitative approach: Online interactions and discussions made with managers of
organisations will be performed to find current issue facing and how employee
motivational factors influences organisational performance.
Quantitative approach: The information collected will be converted into graphical and
numerical format like graphs and charts that will interpret the surveys in more
appropriate manner. This will help in conducting further investigations.
