INTRODUCTION
Business is one of the valuable aspects for the purpose of regulating their operation more
effectively. it can lead to increase the overall potential of support to the people in attaining their
aims and objectives on the allotted time period. This project report aimed at providing specific
information about the implication of the external factors that are affecting the decision making
are covered under this report. Apart from this data related with the understanding of personal
career of law or lawyer of their familiars and the child rights are examining properly under this
project (Deng and Chi, 2012).
Question 1: Impact of the external world on business decision making.
A business is affected by both internal and external environments. The impact of external
world on business decision making is unavoidable. An organization carrying its business should
give back to the environment and society in which it is operating. An organization face constant
pressure from society, government, competitors and other external parties. When an organization
makes a decision, the decision should be made by taking into considerations the requirements of
the external world. No business can survive in the long run if it does not go with what external
world wants. The regulation applicable on the business, competition in the market, bargaining
power of the suppliers, taxation policy etc. are some of the external factors that affect the
decision making of the business (Dumas and et. al., 2012).
A perfect example of how external world could affect the business is UK high streets
crisis. According to a leading newspaper, approximately 650 shops and restaurants have shut in
the beginning of 2018. Some of them are House of Fraser, M&S, East, Maplin, Carpetright,
Mothercare and Poundworld.
The two major reasons for High streets crisis are mainly shifting of people to online
shopping and squeezed incomes due to Brexit. Let us discuss the first reason i.e. shifting to
online shopping. It is one of the crucial aspects that people find it cheap and easy as compared to
retail shopping. The growth of online shopping has reduced that chances of profitability in the
market. According to a report by KPMG, 20% of the market share is held by online players. This
has caused downfall in the growth of retail market particularly high streets in UK (Bridge and
O'Neill, 2012). Due to the growth in online shopping, there are many retailers like John Lewis
and Debenhams have now started to hold more in-store events to attract the customers to their

products. The second reason is squeezed incomes after the Brexit. The fall in the pound post
Brexit has resulted in increased inflation which has caused the shops to raise their prices of the
products. The value of pound fell to 15% after Brexit which increased the inflation over 3%. The
inflation caused wage growth weak and the shoppers have less disposable income to spend in
various stores and restaurants (Chau and Xu, 2012).
Online rivalry has made the high street to struggle to survive in the UK market. The
online non-food sales have raised by 7.5% in the beginning of 2018. The reasons which has put
pressure on the retailers are that shoppers need to visit the stores in order to purchase something
and delivery of the purchased product to the door steps of the shoppers. Online players like
Amazon, ASOS and Boohoo.com have taken a large market share in the UK by providing low
cost services to their customers. The shoppers can see the prices of the products online and
compare the prices before ordering a product and get the product delivered at home. This has
made the shopping easy and cheap.
The effect of Brexit on the pound has resulted the high street to struggle to retain their
market share. The inflation was increased over 3%, wages were 2% and 2.5%. All of these have
decreased the disposable incomes in the hands of shoppers. Apart from this, people have
increased their borrowing to buy expensive items in order to maintain their standard of living.
The increase in the borrowing has pushed people to save more with an expectation that the
inflation will fall in near future which will raise the real incomes (Newbold, Carlson and Thorne,
2012).
The justifiable and possible reasons for the closure could be growth of internet and rising
in financial demands from government. Due to increase in online shopping, Marks and Spencer
said that it won't build any more clothing stores in UK after 2016 and will be focusing on online
retail. Similarly, Tesco has already sold many of its land which it had acquired to build
hypermarkets because it wants to invest in online retailing. Online shopping has been giving a
tough competition to the high street stores. The government demands in the form of taxes and
rent from business and landlords is a factor in giving hump in the high streets crisis. British
Retail Consortium said that, the cost of doing business for shopkeepers has risen from £96
billion to £116 billion since 2006. This means that, the cost increased by 21% against a increase
in sales of 12%. The rates were increased by 2.8%, which added £175 million to the bills of
retailers in UK (George and Bock, 2011).
