REFLECTIVE JOURNALSkills 1: AssertivenessWhat is the core skill to develop? The skill required is assertiveness which is to be developed so that a person can stand up forhimself and for others in calm and positive manner without getting aggressive and accepts ifsomething is wrong (Hillson and Murray-Webster, 2017). They are those who proves theirpoint without upsetting others.This skill examines personal rights of an individual such as thoughts, beliefs and feelings withhonesty. Person with such skills should respect rights of others.Why is this core skill important? Why did I select this skill to reflect on? (use relevanttheories and concepts to support your answer)Skills of assertiveness brings confidence in an individual as it helps to know one self and whatattributes and values one have. This skill is beneficial in organization and all field of life.These help to build great managers by treating people with equality and fairness. Suchmanagers are liked by everyone and employees feel comfortable to work with such people.They have capability to negotiate and solve problems quickly to bring win-win situation.People with these skills tries to find out the best solution of any problem and never feelstressed if things go wrong or without plan. They also learn to 'say no'.I choose this skill to reflect because these skills helps in expressing thoughts & ideas and alsomotivates others. It helps in expressing feelings in positive manner. It builds self-confidenceand make people stand for themselves and accept challenges.Reflect on your current competent regarding this skill. How did you assess yourcompetence? (use your self-assessment findings, feedback from peers and your tutor,plus your own reflections on your thoughts, feelings and behaviors to answer thisquestion) From my assessment, I think I possess assertiveness because I am not shy and speak up formyself when anything happens wrong. I stand up for my colleagues when they can't expresstheir thoughts and feeling. I have a feeling of earning respect from others. I also have goodcommunication skill.When I collected feedback from peers, it was found that they also feel that I have quality ofassertiveness as I listen to views of others and take actions if I think those are correct for my1

team. I always listen to opinion of others and stand up for others rights. I respect every personopinion and take actions with honesty so that everyone feels comfortable.Can you identify any contradictions from your analysis above? For example, is there amatch between how you see yourself and how others see you, or not?I think there is a match between my ideas and peers thought in office. I am what they feel. Iwork on a principle of give respect and take respect. I participated in various quiz that wereconducted online on various sites and the answers reflected that I possess such skills. I haveabilities to respond to problems quickly and find out the best possible solution of problems.Being assertive does not mean to force people to work according to.How might this skill help me in the future? (use references to support your argument)I am a good assertiveness holder but I will have to develop more skills such as easy flow ofcommunication and maintaining social relationships. These skills can be improved such bybeing passive in every situations. It helps to determine rights without hurting someone else’srights and duties. It increases self-esteem and minimizes hurting other people. It safeguards usfrom not trapped by others. It helps to take decisions and give ability to express thoughts inpositive and negative manner without hurting others. These skills help an individual to knowwhat is best for his interest.Skill 2: Time managementWhat is the core skill to develop? The next core skill is that of time management. It can be defined as balancing of time byproper planning, organizing and division of work & activities within given framework(Steinbeis, 2016). A good management enables to work smartly and complete task in lesstime. Inability to complete task in given time would bring stress and may cause damages. It isimportant for people who have more than one task to do and have busy schedules.Why is this core skill important? Why did I select this skill to reflect on? (use relevanttheories and concepts to support your answer)Time management is essential in everyone's life. Highest winners achieve success bymanaging their time. Time management helps to improve production and operation in muchbetter and effective way. The person with such skill are relaxed and calm, and stay away fromstress which opens more chance for advancement and helps to focus more on careerdevelopment. It helps in proper planning and organizing of task in scheduled period.2
