INTRODUCTION
Health and social care sector play a significant role in maintaining healthy lifestyle of
people through conducting health related programs and campaigns. Therefore, it is considered as
a backbone of an economy. Increasing problems in the living standards causes health problems
to an individual due to which it is required to determine the changes in health. The needs and
requirements of an individual related with health and social care services are changed due to
changing environment. The present assignment report is based on NHS hospital East London
which is engaged in providing health and social care services throughout the UK. The project
report discusses the health, disability, illness and behaviour of an individual, analysis of care
needs and current systems for supporting individuals with specific needs along with an
appropriate approaches and interventions, potential impacts of emerging developments, different
concepts and potential impact of challenging behaviour and strategies to work with challenging
behaviour in relation to specific needs in care homes.
TASK 1
1.1: Concepts of health, disability, illness and behaviour in relation to users of health and social
care services
There are various concepts related with health and social care sector which need to be
understood by the service provider in order to identify the actual perception of users related with
changing health and social care services. Such concepts include normality, disability, illness etc.
Normality is also called as normalcy which states the behaviour that is common in every
individual in terms of health factors. In many cases it may changes with the context. Normality
refers to the consistency between the bodily and psychological functions which drives a human
being to enjoy healthy lifestyle (Archer and et. al., 2011) On the other hand, Disability is another
concept which states impairments of human in terms of physical or mental which limit their
activities to perform in an effective and efficient manner. It includes multiple sclerosis, spina
bifida etc. from which an individual can suffer. The other concept is illness in which an
individual suffers by changing its emotions and perceptions on frequent basis. But it can be
monitored and remove through taking necessary precautions using health care services.

1.2: Assessment of how perceptions of specific needs have changed over time
People used to go health and social care sector at the time of urgency but now, they are
more aware about maintaining their health through getting routine check-up on regular basis. At
present, the perception of people towards disability and disable people along with their needs are
changes. At earlier it is pre-assumed that disability was a bad spirit or an individual attained
particular diseases by a devil spirit due to which they are treating very badly and asked them to
stay away from the society. Such discriminatory practices goes down over a period of time due
to changes in thinking of people. In the modern era, proper treatment has been given to such
people who are facing lots of problems in order to express their needs and performing regular
activities. The term equality has been implemented which directs society to provide equal
treatment to each individual whether suffering from health issues or not along with their specific
needs. Such kind of disabilities includes physical disability, mental or learning disability. In
addition with this, specific needs also may different according to the age of user of service. There
are various rules and regulations have been made in order to protect such individuals with
specific needs from ill practices of the society (Bowling, 2014).
1.3: Analysis of the impact of legislation, social policy, society and culture on the ways that
services are made available for individuals with specific needs
There are various legislations, social policy, society and culture which makes huge
impact on the service provider of health and social care. These aspects direct them to perform
their roles and responsibilities in an effective and efficient manner so that the satisfaction level of
employees and users can be maximised. For this, the government must ensure about
implementation of certain policies and laws framed by them for health and social care sector so
that the specific needs can fulfilled. The social policy of society is held liable to extend and
ensure that the services has been provided to users with specific needs. Social policy defined as
the social values and standards which is needed in society. The culture of society cannot be
neglected which also brings huge impact on the quality of services provided to the people having
specific needs. Culture is an essential aspect which need to be consider as it provides the
opportunities to dominate services which are offered to people with specific needs and wants.
For example, an individual facing difficulties due to physical defect then to protect them
Equality Act 2010 has come into existence and Mental Wellness act 2007 has been launched for
