Introduction
Sports has a power to transform lives of disadvantaged and socially excluded communities
at a minimum financial investment. “Sport for Good” initiative is an effective tool to make
available, sports as an option to tackle social exclusion and mobilise resources against three
features of poverty – youth unemployment, youth crime and health and wellbeing inequalities.
They are also capable of promoting girls’ empowerment, community cohesion and opportunities
building for young people (Halonen and et.al., 2015). With such aims in mind, below mentioned
plan is outlined and developed.
This project aims creation and development of athletics ecosystem in Amlwch. It is northern
most town in Wales, UK. Once, a booming mining industrial town, is now neglected and home
to many low-income families. Tourism is major source of income and football and sea rowing
are two most famous sports there. However, these are organised by clubs which have
membership fees, not preferred to be paid by many families. Therefore, a low investment and
good returns sport, athletics – specifically race walking and running are being proposed. This
will help young people of Amlwch develop stable health as well as will be able to provide them
with good chances of making a career out of them. This project is proposed to be started with
group of few local volunteers and volunteers of Laureus Sport for Good Foundation but there are
good chances of getting support from government which is promoting “Sport for good”
campaigns. Partnerships with local groups and local sports club are also available as an option
which will not only provide professional assistance but will be able to get better sponsors to
talented runners of the local community (Alvarez-Bueno and et.al., 2017).
