INTRODUCTION
External environment is dynamic in nature as there are continuous changes that impact on
operation and productivity of company. There are various trends in retail industry such as use of
digital technologies in order to attract customers, demand of personalized experiences,
investment in retail strategies etc. Companies are adapting to these recent trends in order to
enhance their value in minds of customers and enjoy higher profit margin. This report is about
Sainsbury which is second largest company in United Kingdom delivering wide range of
products and services to maximum customers. It has highlighted crucial information related to
trends in retail industry, analysis of organizational and at last contained suggestion regarding the
way operation can be improved for growth of enterprise.
TRENDS IN RETAIL INDUSTRY
Retail industry of United Kingdom has contributed in employing around three million of
people thereby making better lifestyles of people. It has been identified that in 2012, the retail
industry is around £394billion that has contribute in growth and development of economy. There
are various trends in external environment that are impacting retail industry of United Kingdom
which can be illustrated as follows:
Investment in omnichannel: From the study, it has been identified that companies are
making investment in omnichannel retail strategies to attract maximum number of
customers in the firm. Digital media are used by company to generate awareness among
people so that they can take right decision to make purchase for satisfaction of their
respective wants. Use of omnichannel by various companies in retail sector has lead in
enhancing customers experiences and growth of enterprise. Omnichannel has contributed
in providing seamless experienced to people through multi touch-points thereby helping
company in maintaining and retaining large number of customers in the organization
(Pantano and et.al., 2017). Among various channel, social media is best platform that has
helped organization in understanding needs and preferences of people thereby identifying
strategies that could motivate them to be part of organization for fulfillment of their
needs. Therefore, company by making use of different channel like personal selling,
promotion through social media, email is able to increase its overall sales and
profitability.
