Van Dyne, 2015). On the other side diversity in the context to business initiates that a business
workforce incorporates individuals of differing sex, age, religion, race, nationality, social
foundation, sexual direction, religion, dialects, training, capacities, and so on. For overseeing
equality and diversity effectively businesses are widely concern over implementing effective
policies and legal practices for the intention to managing the issues effectively and attain higher
growth and success. In this existing evaluation the analysis has been executed over the analysis
of Marks and Spencer. Therefore, it is a widely recognised major British multinational retailer
company which has its headquarter is in London, United Kingdom. The major specialisation of
the business is selling clothing, home products and food products and the major selling is
conducted by its own brand label. The company was established by the attempts of Michael
Marks and Thomas Spencer in the time of 1884. The organization is having around 80,000
workers who are giving their noteworthy endeavors in the development of the business (Chrobot-
Mason and Aramovich, 2013). The essential focal point of this worldwide brand is too oversee
segregation at work environment for the aim to achieving higher development and achievement..

and enhance operations of the business. Another intention of executing the project is to enhance
individual and specialized knowledge of people involving the researcher and learner that would
be effectual for them in enhancing the operations of the organization. In advance to this the
analysis is also being executed for the personal interest of the researcher as the investigator has
on interest in the area of discrimination and wants to enhance individual skills in the fields of
managing equality and diversity at workplace (Cooper, Patel and Thatcher, 2013).

This characterized to be the most basic zone of examination as it gives an inside and out
hypothetical structure which helps the business to aid the entire examination in right manner to
generate appropriate outcome. This section is widely based on accumulating data via books,
journals, articles and so on.
The concept of equality and diversity in the context to business.
According to Njiru (2014), equality and diversity are two significant part of business
which are should be perceived by the human asset division for the aim to improving the tasks of
the business viably. In the setting to work environment, equality is about impartialityor
reasonableness and allowing each person to take an interest in hierarchical turn of events, and the
chance to achieve their latent capacity effectively. Furthermore, Diversity mainly ensures that
there is freedom at the table for each individual who are belongs from different culture, age, race,
region, gender and not only for those who are vigorous into one specific group of individual
(Choi and Rainey, 2014). This inclusivity is significantly focuses over guarantee that, there is an
effective playing field where everyone has the equal opportunity to reach their potential. In the
terms to business, diversity and equality management are the imperative aspect for the business
and needs to be managed effectively for the purpose to enhancing the operations and progression
of the business (Dalton, D'Netto and Bhanugopan, 2015). Therefore, equality and diversity are
collectively working to ensuring equal treatment at workplace without making any sort of
discrimination on the basis of their age, gender, sex, religion, sexual orientation and so on.
The need for a business to implement legal policies and practices in against of discrimination
at workplace.
According to Mayhew (2020), discrimination is defined as the key component of equality
and diversity management, therefore, discrimination is a major issue of equality and diversity
which is directly influences the operations and progression of the business. Businesses in modern
era are work for achieving some specific objectives and inappropriate assessment of equality and
diversity creates issues at workplace in which discrimination is effectively caused and decreased
their performance of the business and employees as well. However, are assorted needs for a

discrimination in employment act of 1967, Rehabilitation act of 1973, Equal pay act 1963, Anti-
harassment and anti-discrimination policies and so on. However, the implementation of policies
are effective in ensuring employees to have equal rights at workplace and they are also protected
from the issue of discrimination at workplace (Ellemers and et. al., 2012).
The provocations faces by Marks and Spencer due to the issue of workplace discrimination.
According to Holland (2015), in the modern business era, equality and diversity
assessment is the primary obligation of the business and its management as the issues created by
such components are influencing the entire performance of the business and also affects the
brand image of the business. Marks and Spencer is a large retailer firm which has its operations
all around the globe and work with diverse workforce and due to inappropriate assessment of
equality and diversity policy the employees of the business are facing the issue of discrimination.
The company stated within Ireland has ordered to pay compensation of around €40,000 to a
previous representative for victimizing her after she built up an inability. The judgment has
passed by the fairness Tribunal and speaks to that, the organization had adopted a hard strategy
through the previous deals counsel who had been with the organization since 7 years and
promotion treated in unfair way. She was with the organization from 2005 and in the time of
2011 she met with a physical issue outside of the work and was determined to have worker
tendonitis a significant condition where ligaments become aggravated causing high torment. Due
to this company has created discrimination and treated her in wrongful manner (Ferdman and
Deane, 2014). However, as a large multinational business Marks and Spencer needs to
implement effective policies and norms that are effective for the business to attain growth.
The impact of managing discrimination over increasing performance of employees within an
organisation.
As per the opinion analysis of Matthews (2019), Working place discrimination is a basic
issue and it fundamentally happens when managers treat labourers independently because of the
part of their race, age, sex, sexual direction and culture. Hence, working place discrimination has
direct negative impact over the activities and movement of the business and it is required for the
organizations to oversee discrimination to empower compelling representatives working and
expanding business execution. Organizations in the cutting edge period are worry over
expanding the presentation of the business and investigate themselves at more extensive level

development and achievement. As the successful administration of equality and diversity has
positive effect over efficiency of the business as representatives are work with more coordination
and cooperation. Hence, overseeing discrimination guarantee the representatives to rouse for
investing their amounts of energy in the headway of the business (Ferdman and Sagiv, 2012).
Therefore, businesses are worry over executing powerful approaches and standards to oversee
fairness and variety at work environment as it is effective for the businesses to enhance the
operations and working within commercial centre.

Type of Investigation: This characterized to be the most basic territory of an examination as it
categorises among two imperative choices like qualitative and quantitative research
methodology. In the context to this current examination work, quantitative exploration has been
applied as it is powerful in conducting analysis that are based on actual facts an d figures related
to the aspect of equality and diversity in the workplace (Fletcher, 2017).
Data Collection Tools: The collection of information is based over two tools like primary and
secondary basis of information accumulation, therefore, these two are imperative in the manner
to gather valuable information. For implementation of this existing project, both primary and
secondary components are executed through the investigator. Primary investigation is effective
gathering fist hand information which are specific to the aspect to the policies and practices that
are effective in overcoming the challenges of discrimination at workplace. Thus in this
information is gathered through conducting survey in which questionnaire is being applied by the
investigator to gather significant information (Yi And et. al., 2015). In addition to these
secondary tools like books, journals, articles and so on are imperative to develop theoretical
frame work to support the work in right manner to generate accurate outcome.
Data Sampling: Sampling is mainly encompasses over on two aspects i.e. probabilistic and non-
probabilistic sampling tools. Therefore, in the context to this existing project sample has been
select at random basis from the aspects of non-probabilistic sampling tools (Kulkarni and
Gopakumar, 2014). The sample size for this existing project is 40 and in this employees are
select to gather relevant information because they are mostly close to the operations of the
business.
Access and cost: In this study primary and secondary both the study are executed to gather
valuable information and it is significant for the specialist to viably consider access and cost to
deal with the task exercises adequately (Kumar, 2019). For leading essential exploration the
specialist needs to get access from the members in the form of consent form which shows their
concern to provide relevant data. On the contrary side, research also needs to gather information
from the most suitable and authentic source of secondary data, therefore, research requires to
gather information from the suitable source which are authentic in nature to aid the work suitable
manner. In addition to this research have to manage a specific amount of fund and capital as few
activities are cost consuming in nature and needs suitable amount of funds. The major fund is

(Kulik, 2014).
Ethical Consideration: Research ethics are determined to be the primary consideration of the
researcher as it provides a systematic view for implementing activities in suitable manner.
Therefore, in this present analysis researcher needs to follow the ethics and ensure participants
for maintaining safety and security of their private data (Kumar, 2019). At the beginning of the
project the researcher needs to give consent form to their members in the way to getting their
endorsement to being the aspect of the examination. The investigator also ensures to not asking
any questions that are personal to the participants and hurts their emotions and sentiments.

Conclusion and Recommendations
Conclusion
After analysing the indepth study on the effect of equality and diversity over the activities
of the business, it has been presumed that, equality and diversity are two significant viewpoint
which are viably be overseen by the business or its administration to achieve higher development
and achievement. Thusly, separation is a significant issue which is basically brought about by the
wrong administration of variety and the issue of discrimination has direct negative effect over the
tasks and movement of the business. From the evaluation of the project it has also been
determined that, there are different need for the businesses like Developing morale of employees,
Managing equality at workplace, Enhancing collaborative working, Increase in productivity and
performance and so on for which equality and diversity management are essential for the
businesses. Along with this, it has likewise been said that separation is a significant issue and for
managing such issues businesses are focused over developing effective policies and norms like
Equal pay act 1963, Rehabilitation act of 1973, Age discrimination in employment act of 1967,
Anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policies and so on, which are widely effective in
managing issues related with equality and diversity at workplace. However, these norms and
policies are also effective in overcome the challenges like Decreasing employees morale and
performance, Unfair treatment of employees, Inequality among employees, Harassment and
Discrimination and so on that are implemented due to inappropriate assessment of equality and
diversity at workplace.
Recommendation
From the detailed investigation of the undertaking it has been prescribed to the Marks and
Spencer to actualize powerful policies and legal considerations that are imperative in nature to
manage equality and diversity at workplace. Therefore, discrimination is determined as the major
issue of the business and it created negative impact over the operations and progression of the
business. For overcome the issues arises through discrimination it has also been suggested to the
business to implement effective training of equality and diversity, thus this would be effective in
terms to creating awareness among the people about their rights and also encourage effective
17

Spencer to be consistent over the business actions as it would be creating value for the
employees to getting effective opportunities on the basis of their capabilities without making any
bias behaviour on the basis of their gender, age, race, colour, sexual orientation, culture,
background, religion and so on. The another suggestion is also being provided to Marks and
Spencer to Conduct a Gender Pay Gap Evaluation, therefore, this would also be effective for the
business to determining the gap among the employee wage and enhance the morale of working
via providing them equal opportunity and pay.
Reflection & Recommendation of alternative research methodology
This is a wide opportunity for me to got a chance to implement a study over such a big area
to examine the need of implementing legal policies in regards to discrimination and its impact
over increasing performance of employees at workplace. Therefore, I have been glad as the
project is supportive for me to enhance my capabilities in relation to the area of equality and
diversity and how these can be managed at workplace. This study is effective for me in the
manner to providing me the chance to enhance academic as well as professional skills which
would be significant in the manner to attain advancement in carer growth. My personal
experience of conducting this research is great as I have attained a lot of skills and knowledge to
execute an investigation and the right manner with the suitable assistance of implementing
research methodologies. However, in the entire project I have gain a lot regarding the academic
skills; thus, I have been seen than in this execution of methodology is effective to aid the project
in right manner to generate suitable results. In this present study quantitative analysis has been
applied because it is imperative in conducting detailed analysis in which information is gathered
in actual facts and figures. This approach has significant value in gathering information from the
wider sample and it is also effective in gathering information quickly. The demerit of this
approach is that it can be expensive that the qualitative approach. As the execution of the project
has also states that, in these both primary and secondary tools are applied to aid the project in
right manner, therefore, primary is conducted via applying survey and secondary study is viable
in creating hypothetical system through the assistance of books, diaries, articles, etc.
Although, I have been seen that, in this specific task essential exploration is being create to
accumulate powerful and explicit data and there are various ways to gather primary data like
interview, questionnaire, focus group, case study and so on. Therefore, interview can be the best
