Reflective Approaches in Implementing Person Centred Practice
Comparing social and medical models
Person centred care includes the equal involvement of all individuals in all associated
activities of care like planning, developing and monitoring. This is the important approach
regarding providence of all healthcare rights to individuals for safeguarding their life. There
is huge importance of this concept because this will create an obligation over professionals
where they must have to adopt best practices and inform all decision makings to person. In
its successful application must for a professional to know about the behaviour, issues and
causes associated with particular person. This is so because everyone has different body
structure and lives in different style where causes will be different for some same kind of
issues All such information further directs the professional in providence of effective
medication according to the body needs. The main purpose of this approach is to put the
person at centre of the healthcare where everything is known to him and revolves around
the personal need.
There are two types of model used in the application of person centred practice
which are known as social and medical. Social model is related with ascertainment of all
information about the person including behaviour, culture, issues and causes. The same also
covers the application of relevant practices according to their personality that help to meet
their social needs at the time of providing personal care. On the other hand, medical model
work in the direction of effective medication on the basis of the information ascertained
from application of social model. Here, treatment of disease is only provided by
considering all the information related to body and cause. Simultaneously, all the
information related to such decision making is disseminate to persons.
It is clear from the above description that medical model is based upon the
information attained from social model. So, providence of better is care totally depends
over effective integration between both.

provide all information regarding their behaviour, culture, medical history and other
different number of issues that have some kind of influence over functioning of
body. This hinders the capacity of professional to judge the personality where do
not allow to adopt the practice which is most efficient in terms of tackling
behavioural and medicinal requirements.
Large number of patients at a time: There are many number of patients come for
treatment at a time. It is not possible in case of everyone to apply the process of person
centred care. So, the issue of time is the reason that creates the challenge.
Lack of staff: It is clear that ratio of professionals and persons is uneven in society. The
