INTRODUCTION
Third sector is defined as all such sectors that are nongovernmental sector and also do
not operated to entertain profits out of the operations. This report will analysis about the role
of third sector in the pandemic situations like COVID 19. Henceforth, report will emphasis
on key government initiatives taken to support the social economy. Examples of third sector
organisation will also demonstrate in this report. Benefits and limitations working in
partnership will also demonstrate in this report.

Following are the initiavtives taken by government related to third sector.
Government and Public involvement in health act: This act has changed the significance
of the third sector in the public services at United Kingdom. The aim behind the act is to
improve the role of third sector in dealing with all the social issues society is facing. In recent
time the United Kingdom has faced the crisis of COVID 19 (Busso, 2018). Third sector
organisations have contributed and support the government to deal with the situation. This act
has encouraged society in United Kingdom to establish third sector organisation in United
Kingdom. After the implementation of this act number of third sector organisations has
suddenly increased.
Partnership in public services: To involve the third sector in various governmental
organisations like cabinet office, the department of health, the department of education and
skill and many other departments in the United Kingdom. This act has involved the role of
third sector in all the government offices. Every time the society face any kind of pandemic
situation like COVID 19 third sectors get to involve with the governmental institutions to
face the situation.
Third sector strategy for communities and local government: To improve the future role
of third sector in the society this strategy has farmed. The aim of this is to improve the role of
third sector in dealing with different social issues. This has enhanced the support to third
sector in facing the social issues.
CLG consulted on principle of representation: This is a framework for an effective
participation of third sector in local strategic partnerships. Local strategic partnership is a

forum where all sectors come together and work for the betterment of the society (Chadborn
and et.al., 2019). This step taken by government has changed the dimensions for third sectors
in United Kingdom.
White paper published: Government has launched a white paper to clarify identification of
community led organisation having a key role in increasing community cohesion and
involvement. This is an important step which has provided more authorities to third sector
that has supported the sector in growing.
Free education: Third sector played a significant role in serving the best quality of education
to all the poor people around in the society. This has been one of the major change third
sector has created so far from its services (McMullin, 2019). They supported the economic
poor background peoples in meeting up the education need of the kids and children’s.
Medical services: Third sector has been involved in serving the medical services in the
society. In recent time the United Kingdom has faced the pandemic call COVID 19. Third
sector played a strong role in giving services to fight against the pandemic. This has
supported government while in the pandemic of COVID 19. Medical related services are one
of the key areas third sector has been involved from last many years.
Dealing with pandemic: Third sector play crucial role in dealing with pandemic situations
like COVID 19. It becomes important for the government to access some kind of external
support from other organisations not working to earn profits (Myers, 2017). Third sector
organisations like NGO and others played a significant role on behalf of the government
bodies in United Kingdom to meet up different needs and requirements of the people in
society. They were engaged in sending food products to all the economic backward and
category peoples around in the city.
Social changes: Third sector organisations also engaged in making social changes in the
societies. This is another important contribution third sector organisation make in the society.
They have been engaged in contributing for the betterment of the society. Many companies
also operate their social responsibility operations under the guidance of the third sector
organisation as a part of the corporate social responsibility operations.
Provide primary care services: Third sector involve in providing primary care services to
the people in the society. They are engaged in many such primary care services for the people
who are suffering from diseases (Cook and Burchell, 2018). Services like blood camp and

many other services they cater. This is an important aspect about the third sector to improve
the medical support in the society. This aspect about the third sector has changed the
significance of the third sector in the society.
Support government in facing pandemics: Third sector organisations also support
government in facing the pandemic situations. In recent time United Kingdom along with the
world has faced the spread of COVID 19. Third sector has played a significant role on behalf
of the government in facing the situation. This is an important aspect about the third sector
organisations. In pandemic they played role in serving food products to the peoples in
society, they also contributed in the hospitals as a volunteer and in many other ways.
Social development: Third sector play a crucial role in the development of the society. This
is an important aspect about the contribution third sector has made in the society. They
played a crucial role in the growth and development of the society. Thyme involve in serving
free education or in a very affordable price range to contribute in the growth of the society.
All the above initiavs has shaoped the social economy in between 1990's and till now.
All these steps could create a positive impact over the socio economy.
Examples of third sector organisations
Various organisations are working in United Kingdom associated with the third
sector. Different examples of such organisation can be given in the following manner.
Age UK: Age UK is a charity organisation for the older age group peoples in United
Kingdom. This organisation take care of the people belongs to old age group. This
organisation take care of old age people and serve all the services these old age people
requires for living. These organisations played an important role in taking care of old age
group peoples based in UK.
Policy Press: Policy Press is a third sector organisation involved in printing. This is a
academic publisher kind of organisation. The organisation was established in the year 1996.
This is an specific example of third sector based organisation.
SCVO: SCVO is formerly known as Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisation. This is a
national body of Scotland Charities (Pegg and Caddell, 2016). The organisation was founded
in the year 1943. Approximately 1900 members are a part of the organisation. This

organisation has played an important role in the third sector growth and development in
United Kingdom.
WCVA: WCVA is also known as Wales Council for Voluntary Action. The organisation was
established in the year 1934. The aim behind the operations undertaken by the sector is to
create a future where third sector and volunteering thrive across the Wales. This is an
important example of third sector organisation based in United Kingdom. It has promoted the
third sector across the Wales.
JRF: JRF is known as Joseph Rowntree Foundation. The organisation is a charity
organisation which engaged in conducting and fund research aimed at solving poverty issue
in United Kingdom (Scheiber, 2016). The organisation was founded in the year 1904 by the
founder Joseph Rowntree. This organisation has played an important role in United Kingdom
in dealing against the poverty.
The above mentioned organisations are the key example stated the third sector in
United Kingdom.
Benefits and barrier for third sector organisation

Provide employment opportunity: Third sector organisation serves an opportunity to all
people who are looking for an employment opportunity. This is a significant advantage third
sector organisation offer in the betterment of the society. They play a crucial role in reducing

Improve charity: Third sector organisation played a significant role in raising awareness for
the charity in the United Kingdom. After the emergence of third sector organisations
awareness in the mid of peoples around in society has risen towards the charity and social
services. They have encouraged people enough for doing more the social causes (Walker and
Hayton, 2018). Charity also creates a economic balance between upper economic class and

Effective dealing with pandemics: In recent time United Kingdom along with the world has
witnessed the global pandemic denoted as COVID 19. Third sector organisation has played a

significant role for dealing against the pandemic situation. They have given a huge support to
government in meeting up different needs of the people like food and other support. They
also contributed in the medical servings.
Limited funds: This is the man barrier third sector organisation face while serving in the
society. They are always lack of funds they need for coping up different objectives associated
with them.
