Introduction
Human resource management is defined as the process of analysing the needs of human
resource in the organisation and then accordingly hiring the right and skilled candidate for the
right position, it involves number of process to be carried out by the human resource manager
such as recruiting candidate, compensating, providing effective training, motivating them and
implementing policies in order to enhance overall performance. For this report Marks & Spencer
is taken as the base company (Armstrong, 2019). Marks & Spencer is one of the well established
retail company having more than 959 stores across the UK. Company was founded in 1884 by
Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer. This report highlights detailed description of human
resource along with its functions and purpose and also the strength and weakness Company has
to face from the workforce. In addition to this the benefits of HRM practices and the application
of HRM practices are also highlighted in the present report.

P1 Analyse the purpose & functions of HRM suitable to workforce planning & resourcing and
organisation
Human resouce mangemnent is one of the most essential process of the organiosation
whiuch is defined as the process of ensuring the availability of human resource in the
organisation and according to the requirenment hiring the right candidate for the right position, it
includes managing, employing, compensating, training and motivating the workforce effectively
in order to enhance the overall productivity (Ardito and Petruzzelli, 2017). For this report Marks
& Spencer is taken as the base company, it is an well established retail company founded in 1884
Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer. Human resource department of the company promotes
healthy and fair working environment, ensuring equal treatment to each and every employees in
term of employment also providing the effective training to employees in order to motivate them
(Eivazinezhad and Parishani, 2020). Before analysing the human resource department of the
company is important to know the mission, vision and core business objectives of the company
as discussed below:
Mission: The mission statement of the company is to continue to provide quality services to it
customers.

Vision: The vision statement of the company is to set a strong standard in the marketplace for
the other and the competitors.
Objective: The core business objective of the company is to create a sustainable business
through enhancing their profitability and growth.
The purpose and functions of HRM appropriate to workforce planning and resource in context to
Marks and Spencer are discussed below:
Functions:
HR planning: One of the most essential functions of the human resource management is
the HR planning, it includes continuous and efficient planning process in order to achieve
effective utilisation of human resource, it ensure that there is availability of skilled human
resource at the right place effectively (Ployhart, 2021). In context to Marks & Spencer, through
effective HR planning helps company to enhance their overall performance effectively.
Recruitment & Selection: The another function of human resource management is the
recruitment and selection, recruitment is the process of attracting large number of audience to
apply for the job and selection is hiring the best and suitable as well as skilled candidate. In case
of Marks & Spencer, HR manager of the company effectively use this function to attract and hire
the best and skilled candidate for the required position (Jonsen, 2017).
Functions and strategies used by Human resource in Marks and Spencer
Transforming human capital management systems: In Marks and Spencer there is need
to transform the human capital management system where there is alignment of business goals
for improving the user experiences. All the HR functionalities have to be integrated and mange
the personal data and all the HR related information.
Implementation of a load balancer: In Marks and spender Human resource department
has adopted a strategy where there is use of a load balancer for the purpose of optimization of a
network traffic that is helping in the process of batch processing and also helping in enhancing
the efficiency in the functions performed by HR department.
Purpose:
Enhancing the overall effectiveness: The main purpose of human resource department is
enhancing the overall effectiveness of the organisation through employing the right and skilled
candidate which leads to providing better outcomes. It also ensure that employees are motivated
towards achieving desired goals and objectives enhancing the overall effectiveness. In context to
